How big is your team? I do strongly suggest getting a good size team together, especially for a 3D game. Very little can be done by a single person these days. Another game engine to consider is [link="http://www.garagegames.com/"]Torque[/link], or modding an existing game such as Half-Life 2. Modding is usually much easier than creating an entirely new game.
Unfortunately, I've just never had the motivation to learn how to use paint programs... but with SKS, it looks like I'll need to be. I just started using pbrush.exe and Paint.NET about a week ago when I bought SKS.
Yeah, I've been using Inkscape and the GIMP. Underneath all of those pixels, it's all just numbers, usually integers from 0 to 255. Add some layers, and you can do some really cool stuff. I used a Floyd-Steinberg dither to dither the colors smoothly in
It's rare to find someone who is not only good at creating images, but also understands the intricacies of SKS/WB.
LOL, I'm okay with images, and I know all of the technical stuff (computer programmer), but I just started learning SKS a week ago. I'm still frustrated with bugs in my own skin. Image editing is hobby for me, so I don't really consider myself a professional, but I am very technical, and can get done anything I set my mind to. Anyways, I've

I've been using SKS6. I'm a first time user of Skin Studio, though. I may install SKS5.

For stuff like that, I think Inkscape should create good results. It's great for vector images. http://www.inkscape.org/ Some things to note: -WARNING: Anybody with lower number of colors will see gradients with banding and/or dithering. Keep that in mind when designing a skin with a gradient. -Not all LCDs that claim to have true color really do. There was a big dispute about Apple's LCDs, which apparently dithered a lower number of colors to create their ima

Tested in XP on a virtual machine, and it seems to work, with some bugs. Dunno what's up, or why XP actually works better than Vista, even though Vista is the first OS to really have a button that extends beyond the Start menu.
I thought Vista was an interim release, like ME?? that's what I read, anyway.
Nope. It rewrites a lot of code. It's considered a new OS. Think of it like Windows 95. If you grab one of the first CDs of Windows 95 and try it without any patches, you'll find it's riddled with bugs, and a lot of people did indeed complain loudly about it. Windows 7 will probably be like Windows 98. I'm guessing that a lot of people will just get the next version of Windows
In two years -- or less -- most new PCs will come with Stardock-developed technology and content. In five years we expect to be one of the major PC, and possibly major console publishers, and the largest digital distributor of PC content.

Let me put it this way, the PC OEMs have gotten the message about "craplets". They came to us to solve the problem, not exacerbate it. You'll see what I mean soon.
Wow. That's extremely ambitious. If you've worked

Okay, so I want to create a start button that "pops up" just like in other skins - but somehow, my own custom skin isn't doing it. It appears fine in the previews, but when I finally apply it to my system it doesn't work and my button is just cut off every time. It appears the "glow" just isn't getting applied, even though "always show start button glow" is on, and the Top and Bottom settings are correct. Any ideas?

Thanks for the explanation, Xiandi!
A rarely used and now mostly unnecessary feature because of the new colorize abilities in WB6.
A skin developer may want to include some color schemes with his/her own set of colors, or want the ability to control which parts of the skin are colorized. Some skins may have decorations that will look ugly if colorized. It sounds pretty useful for more complex skins.

I like SkinStudio 6, but it does seem quite quirky. Never tried 5, BTW. One thing that is sorta annoying is that I have to duplicate an image so many times, even if I don't want a separate image for all of the states and it's shared all over the place. BTW, do you know what colouring masks are?

Turns out that the skin I was using as a base skin was using three images instead of the default six. When I switched to six images for the buttons, it started working.

Can somebody describe to me how these titlebar buttons work?? Several skins I've looked at have several copies of the buttons. On my own skin, I've got this weird bug where the buttons dissapear in windows that are not focused. What's going on? Using Skin Studio 6.
