It isn't that I think it's "cheating" but there isn't anything fancy to do with unit placement. And if you are going to do it manually, the ai needs to be able to do it just as well. I don't want to have to set up my units if the algorithm is good enough to do it for me, and I don't want the ai too incompetent to do it the same If I'm able to place mine. Lastly, leaving it forced algorithm will caus
I don't like the manual placement idea. It gives a. Unfair advantage to the ai and consumes time. It just needs some coding changes to define front line and back line units.
How about this? The game places your units as it thinks is appropriate based on their weapon, HP, and armor stats and the player can swap any of them with each other before the battle starts. That cuts down on t
thus Frogboy's obsession with shadows [e digicons]:ninja:[/e] We'll have to see what comes, but we're months away from release and Frogboy's on record as saying a lot of the new content stuff (more monsters, maps, heroes, quests, etc.) aren't going in until we stress-test the beta. I think on release LH will have a lot of content to differentiate itself.
dazed units also can counterattack and dodge which is weird
This goes right to my pet peeve about leveling up in this game. Why isn't there an "Done" button on the level up sheet? Because you only see the level up sheet when you level up and you cannot put off that decision at all. You have to spend all your level-up points immediately. Please, Stardock UI designers, let us choose our level up bonuses at our leisure. Put a button on the character sheet that brings up the level up dialog. PLEASE. [e digic
Frogboy The Legendary Heroes In Fallen Enchantress, your ability to acquire champions (which led to your victory or defeat often times) was dependent on how the map placed the champions at the start of the game. You literally would find them camping out in the wilds. This had the tendency of making victory less about how powerful your civilization was and more about amassing champions. In fact, some players
Swarm does *not* attack for the other units. It lowers the defense of the other unit. It needs to be offset though. Each adjacent defending unit should reduce the swarm effect by an equal amount.
This. If it's a three-on-three battle, it's not a swarm.
The visual cue is a bit confusing. Maybe change it from an attack animation to
I only played a couple turns last night, but I can say with assurance: watch out for wolves! and everything else in this game. Has anyone tried auto-resolve to see how it compares? I throw my hat in with those that say that you should, in most circumstances, be able to organize your units before the battle starts. Monsters/champions could have an attribute like "Ambush" or something that would prevent you from organizing if they attacked you, but in general, and espe
You know what would be awesome? Another multi-page thread where people debate the pros and cons of steam. [e digicons]#:([/e]
Frogboy's position is perfectly reasonable. A game is not a collection of modding tools and a collection of modding tools is not a game. They are two separate things. Doing either well is a challenge. Doing both together is a monstrous undertaking. Inevitably, there were compromises made in the design of the game and the design of the modding tools that made both a little less perfect than Brad had envisioned. The thing is, there's always going to
Brad's trolling his own forums! Lol! [e digicons][/e]
As an end user, I could write a pretty impressive role playing game with base FE. I could do a Civilization V style total conversion with FE out of the box. Yea, it would require me to write some C++ code to juggle around XML files a bit but it's a lot less work than Civ IV required to do meaningful mods with it.
Isn't the problem that
Plus, we currently have 5 games in development so Derek and I are pretty busy -- and that's not counting Stardock's main "day job" which is PC software.
Personally, I don't use your PC software so I think you shouldn't waste your time with that stuff and instead focus on getting the LH Beta out sooner. And by sooner, I mean, NOW NOW NOW. /kidding [e digicons];)[/e]
It's your game, Brad; take your time and make it how you want. Haters gonna hate. Fortunately for them there's the [e digicons]:waaaa:[/e]
Umm, no. I enjoy reading these
And you would still be able to read them. Whenever you want. Because they would be notifications, not modal dialogs that force you to read RIGHT NOW. But if you watch Frogboy play you can actually see (and hear in his speaking) the awkward effect of these dialogs. They totally break his concentration and knock him out of the game. He's not reading them (becau
The game looks beautiful! I am really happy with the hero recruitment and the tactical battles seem better (though clearly the game need a better UI clue for when a unit has ranged attack -- how frustrating it was watching you end-turn on your fire-mage). Is it too late to make a common-sense UI suggestion? Watching your play-through, there's an issue with flavor text dialogs breaking the flow of the game. Flavor texts are important to establishing the lore and e

I am not going to defend EA. They completely f-ed up. They made an internet-enabled (er.. required) game without establishing a basic competence or understanding of that medium. Predictably, as soon as their servers saw significant loads the game stopped working and EA/Maxis was caught with their pants down. It's not, as many have surmised, an issue of not having enough "servers" to handle the load (Simcity is hosted on AWS -- so scaling is a matter of clic
How exactly would you implement this in FE's initiative-based system? Either you take your turn when it comes up or you lose it.
Darxim, a few posts up, covers this pretty well. My only fear is that it would be used to do "gamey" things, like wait for the AI to move its units closer so that you can get a first strike. Which is not really the point. In my mind a legit use for this wo
WTF? Steam is mandatory for LH?!? Who though that is a good idea? :/
lol! this forum already has an active thread for bitching about steam here :
Looking forward to it! If I might make a suggestion for the beta process, you might want to look into how you can limit the beta in ways that focus player attention on specific aspects of the game. (Assuming we're talking about a month or more of beta-ing) For example, the early betas could have one size map, fixed opponents, no unit design, no custom sovs, no loot drops. That sort of thing. You're not assuaging disappointed WoM players anymore, they&

I see what you mean about the brown around the mountains. Frankly, I think if you can walk on it, it should be the color of the grass.
IMO, it looks like you guys might have went a bit overboard with sharpening filters... My personal wish: I just wish the map wasn't so... flat. A bit more realistic topology would make things look a lot better. For example, hills should be... hills (areas where the terrain height differs/changes
All of this looks great, but since you're polishing can I make a suggestion: design the UI to allow the player to defer these decisions All these modal level-up dialogs look awesome! But sometimes in FE I am not really sure what I want to do in that moment. I just finished fighting a nerve-jangling tactical battle and now you're forcing me to make a strategic level decision? I don't want to do that right away. First, I want to look at my champion, m
Steam works great... until it doesn't. [e digicons]X([/e] But that's true of every piece of software and games especially, certainly the same could be said of FE and WoM. So [e digicons]:waaaa:[/e] Once Stardock sold off Impulse (good move, btw), the writing was on the wall in big bold letters.
