Skyjack is correct, one additional thing is to build starbases along trade routes (or vise versa) for an extra BONUS !!! I seem to always make better trade routes than the AI.

Bump - "Hey watchout ya toad" common conversation in pirate drinking holes
... conversation over-heard at a rouge asteriod output somewhere in the Delta quad... " Hey, did ya see the flash from that missle test them kittens did???" "Whatta big poof, just an ~Influence Blast~ if in ya ask me..." " It is weird Al, these felines and terrans all buddy-buddy now..." " Well, we'll see how long before the nice little kitty bites the clueless monkeys!!!" " HEY FRANG, We needs sum refills ova heer..burp..."
Did anyone else notice that if you are zoomed in close on a fighter... then you click on your home system on the mini map... A BLAZING SUN covers almost the entire display, blinding you just like the real sun. Gonna have to wear my welders goggles...
Transcript of Ship Comm recording from a suspected pirate ship "We are approaching the shipping lane Captain..." "Sensors on full power" "What ?? What the blue moon is that ??" "It's a Drak class fighter Captain Curt !!" "I got a bad feeling about this ..." "We need a bigger boat" - End of Recording
Marc is correct, them Dead Lords WILL KICK !@#$ on your troops if you don't.... Sad to say This I KNOW ... Byram
Yes, that goofy blur of spinning numbers is a major factor in an Invasion!!!! On my system they go so fast all I can do is "Click an pray " I admit to a little cheese here, SAVE first and try again if things go bad ... I have a dedicated INVASION save slot. Byram
On gigantic maps with Anomalies set to Abundant , I make a few comb Scout / Survey ships. Cargo Hull - Life Support - Sensors - Survey Module - as many engines that fit ... Fast enough to scout and it is handy to be able to collect the Anomally candy quickly.
This Game Talk forum has some good info on the Dread Lord mission in the campaign. Check out the "Newbie Guide MKll" and the "siege wtf " thread... OR, you can RETIRE from the DL siege mission and select the alternate mission to form an alliance with the Torians. (Way of the Wimp) Byram
Byram says: The number and location of anomalies are same... type is RANDOM ( ex: Research +1 or Ship bonus) Plant type and Location is same ... but Special Tiles are RANDOM !!!! Hope this helps

I bought GalCiv2 last week, made it thru the system set-up dance (thanks to this VERY helpful forum!!) and started a sandbox game on a huge map as the Terrans. After several hours of Xplore and Xpand I got the urge to blast something so I switched to the Campaign game. I was building up my little empire in normal mode and at the point when I was building my first Defender ships the dirty Drengs attacked my newest colony with transports!! I checked the tech tree and found it would take 50+ turn
