>> Current Display Mode: 1024 x 768 (16 bit) (60Hz) GC2 requires 32bit colour depth. It wouldn't be a bad idea to increase your page file size to 2GB or more.

Start game, click "update game" opens Stardock Central which allows you to update the game. Uncheck the "show pre-release versions" box if you only want the latest (1.0X) official patch. 1.1 Beta 4 works fine for me though

(Not an expert) - Only thing I can think of is graphics card overheating. Have you tried enabling the "Throttle frame rate" option?

options/interface uncheck the "Remove functional ship components when upgrading a ship design" option (under "Ship Design"). Edit - that's in 1.1 Beta 4 Son of Edit, possibly in earlier versions too.

Have you read the beginners guide ? Link Buy a factory or two on your homeworld and a colony ship or two (custom colony ships are even better). Pick up a few tips from reading these forums ... but working out your own strategy is a blast ... and welcome to the world of GalCiv2, where I currently live approximately eight hours a day (the wife is not happy!)

I never abandon anything, what is the point? If the Drengin are kicking your butt and you know you're going to lose there is a certain amount of satisfaction in destroying all your colonies before they defeat you.

So forgive me for being a noob but how do I get it do display my medals and such when I post? Click the almost invisible Default button for your character. It's in "edit my characters" just below the "clear scores" button.

Congrats Heretic! You know what happens now? You start cranking up the difficulty and losing hours, days or weeks of your life to GC2. Enjoy.

I think their approval rating is also a factor - if they have a high approval rating the chances of flipping to your side are much slimmer.

Ignore this - whatever I'd screwed up it all got sorted out in the end ... no problems at all moving the save back from laptop to desktop. And a technological victory to boot. Suck on that, Yor scum! (I'm a bit hyper after that victory, so forgive me if I go a bit overboard) Best. Game. Ever.

I hit a problem moving a saved Metaverse game from my desktop PC to my laptop - none of my custom ships were availabe. I found what appeared to be the relevant files in My Games\GalCiv2\ships and My Games\GalCiv2\Metaverse\ships and copied those over as well. All seemed fine until I set my governor to change all planets building Defender to build a custom ship - horrendous crash. Ok, so I've screwed up somewhere ... any advice on

this game is unusually buggy I take it you never played (for example) Championship Manager 4 or Black & White? OK, I had many crashes with 1.0X ... until I read the forums and realised my display drivers were way out of date (2004). I've had several crashes on 1.1 Beta 1 and 2, b

No probs playing gigantic on my XP2100 with 1GB ram. Slow as can be on my P4 2.66gig laptop with 512MB ram (though onboard graphics probably don't help). Upgrade ram to 1GB if necessary. Increase paging filesize to 2GB... Make sure no nasties are running in the background ... I had GC2 slow to a halt once - discovered Diskeeper was doing a defrag AND Norton AV was virus scanning at the same time as I was playing GC2! <img src="ht
