Yeah, I failed one of those the other day while trying to post on a friend's Blogger site. Ugh. I felt really dumb, because I had to retype the entire message, and by that point, i'd forgotten a bunch of the things I'd wanted to say . . . oh well.
Last night I was pensive. I thought a lot about my relationship with God, and how I've felt his hand in my life. This week has been a rollercoaster of emotion, but I'm finally back to normal - business as usual. SC is kickin' still. But after all this thought, I was browsing the internet and stumbled upon one of my poems I had written back in 2002, had posted on
Very funny, Dr. Guy. I especially liked the one about the cows for a wife. Have you ever heard of the movie Johnnie Lingo? It was made back in the sixties or seventies by BYU, and it's all about some tribe on some island and Johnnie Lingo, who buys his childhood sweetheart from her father for 8 cows - more than any woman, ever! Hee hee! It's great for a laugh!
That's true. I think it's because I'm a techno-phobe that I can't really get it. Maybe someday . . . nope. I'll be too busy for the rest of forever . . . Grad school, then teaching. Good thing me and computers don't really get along.
I just wonder where people have time for all that surfing. Maybe I'm weird, but I barely have enough time to come over here once or twice a day for a couple minutes and see what's up. I guess that's what happens when you're a full-time student and working full time as well (and not at a desk, so if things get slow, I could surf . . . when things get slow at the nursery, we get to trim stuff . . .) but I really don't understand the motivation to spend
Thanks everyone. I'm feeling quite a bit better today. The news of the person committing suicide really hit me hard, though. I haven't been my usual chipper, fun self . . . and it's really bugging me. Soon, though, good ol' SC will be as optimistic and grumpy (all at the same time) as he ever was. And he'll talk in the third person (that's for you Timmy-timmy, I KNOW how much you LOVE it . . .)
I hate to hear about situations like this. I can't imagine what causes a person to commit such a heinous crime against someone else. It makes me feel sick inside. But stand up with pride and continue to be BD. What else am I going to make fun of if you change your name?
I enjoyed it too, tova . . . it got me thinking. A lot.
As stated in my last post, I've been feeling rather down lately. I'm doing better this morning, largely due to a song by a band called Redemption. On their last album, they've got a bombastic, epic piece called "The Fullness of Time". It's split into four parts, but the third part is the one I haven't been able to get out of my head. Its chorus, for me right now,
Sounds good. Thanks for stopping by, Amanda. We'll talk, BD. Have you thought of a way to put an S before that? sophomoric, yes; funny, also.
There is a book by Gabriel García Márquez named "Cien años de soledad", or "A hundred years of solitude". It's a very melancholic book that I read last summer; arguably García Márquez' best book (and I've read a bunch - "Crónica de una muerte anunciada", "El otoño del Patriarca" and "Historia de mis putas tristes"), but it deals a lot with solitude; what it is, what
I agree with you, BlueDev, the end of Torment was awesome. That game took me so freaking long to play, to finally reach the end and be so . . . fulfilled . . . was wonderful. Other great ones: blowing up the Lucifer's ass at the end of FreeSpace. I still haven't beaten FreeSpace II, but someday . . . especially with the new computer. Another: kicking YOUR butt for the first time at Unreal tourney. After like fifteen deathmatches, I finally
Hookey's half the fun of it! When I got to college, I thought that maybe the stringent policies on attendance would disappear. Not always the case . . . some classes (teachers) are really good about it - they realize that you're the one paying to be there, and if you don't want to be, oh well. But others would give pop quizzes to encourage daily attendance . . . and they were always the sucky classes, too. Thank goodness that the majority o
"I also find the exuse "she just did what she thought was best" as deplorable. I have no use for religions that will prevent people from getting life saving treatments that are proven to work because of something they "believe". I simply can't believe anyone would defend this!" Thank you, Jill. Good point. Cruise has no place telling people what to do or what not to do with their lives. Encourage, yes. Advise, yes. Tell or demand or belit
This album is literally amazing. I love it. Thanks for the heads up on a great disc, BlueDev!
I agree with BlueDev - you should have the common courtesy to, if you intend to write posts with explicit language, at least warn us beforehand. As well as I agree with cactoblasta - if you honestly put the entire blame on the woman in this circumstance, it means that you're not man enough to control your own urges - or you're just too lazy to want to. While I may or may not agree with abortion, you putting all the blame on the woman for dressing "sk

Wow . . . hearing about things like this makes me want to cry, and makes me feel sick. And not just a little. I feel so terrible that there are people like this out there, who would do this to another living person . . . I can't even imagine it. What could possibly drive a person to commit a crime like this? Where do they get off? It enrages me. It infuriates me. It makes me want the police to find the guy and string him up . . . and I don
Amen, Brother Gid. I loved the article. Communism does work on paper, as singrdave said, but it will never work in real life, despite what this os2wiz guy says, because humans are too darn selfish. We are greedy; end of story. We need to protect our rights above all else. I believe it was Benjamin Franklin who said (and if it wasn't him, it should have been) . . . I'm paraphrasing here . . . "anyone who is willing to give up liberty for security d
Gideon . . . good choice. Fenders will never be as good a guitar as an Ibanez. I don't consider myself an expert on guitars, but I know a bit (especially acoustic guitars; my father is a collector of them - he has five - and has passed his obsession down to me). Ibanez is a guitar that will sound better for longer than any Yamaha or Fender, especially if we're talking acoustics. I own two Ibanez guitars - one acoustic, one classica
I liked your article, Gideon, and I agree with you, being also familiar with the history of the church (being a member and formally being one of those guys in white shirts and suits, although i never wore a black one, they show stains too easily . . .) We should not prohibit practice of religious beliefs that don't have adverse affects in the lives of non-participants.
geekinthecity - I sympathize. It sucks to be alone on Valentine's day, especially when all your friends are with their significant others and you're sitting at home doing your damn homework . . . I hate online classes. But - keep the hope alive. I have a really good friend who, I'd wager, may have been the biggest geek I've ever met in my short 22 years of life. He had never had a girlfriend while growing up (I'd had a couple - this kid pra
Oh boy, BlueDev, you're missing out. This is, as I said, one of the best shows you'll ever see. It's got the best dialogue, just like Iconoclast mentions. It's absolutely splendid. Of course, I can't get enough of what Joss Whedon does; I'm a die-hard Firefly fan, too . . .
I'll admit it. When I started watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer, way back in its freshman season, I was only watching for the incomparable Sarah Michelle Gellar. I remember seeing advertisements (I think I was about thirteen or fourteen) and thinking, "Wow. Now there is a prety girl. I'm going to have to watch that show." But my mother, in typical Mama Jones
