...as it makes contact with all sorts of interesting civilizations on its way back... While this is true, you are just as likely to end up having your ship thrown into a completely blank section of space. Especially if you play on a rare stars map with rare habitable planets.

You can always build starbases anywhere. You don't have to build them on resources. If you really want a starbase to support your colonies, just build one next to it
Another idea that would seriously help playing in a huge galaxy... A button that allows you to center on the planet that something was built at. For example, in any given turn you'll produce 5 or 6 ships out of some 30 planets. Where are they? In a huge galaxy, it's not easy to find them. Definitely needs to be a button that helps you find where your ships are after they are built. In GC1 we had the auto-launch. This helped some, but to me, it still wasn't enough. In GC2 be
Yep, I always do unless it's an identical crash to the one that just crashed me (i.e. Crashed on load of a savegame, then crashed on load of the very same savegame). If I'm not mistaken, I also sent the savegame with the exception. I haven't yet had the chance to download the new version. The above report was posted before it came out.
Ran a game on a tiny map with abundant habitable planets but rare everything else. Included one AI opponent... There were about 4 stars, but apparently the game didn't create the Sol system. The terran alliance was placed in MY system, on a class 0 world. Game ended on turn 4 with victory for me. Also, neither the terran alliance, nor the thalans (me) had their native system. We ended up in the primus system. They were on Primus 2, and I was on Primus 1.
You guys might want to put on your diplomat hats out there and try to create some alliances. First one I tried to create crashed the game. Perhaps it was because it was the last empire, and I was effectively triggering the unimplemented alliance victory. I'm not sure however. Has anyone else managed to successfully create an alliance?
Even though my tech is higher than my opponent (about double, in fact), they seem to be able to invade planets with a smaller force (500 vs 3000) and take the planet. Makes for a difficult victory.... We'll see what happens when I invade...
Yet another UI tweak posted by me Senate vote screen incorrectly displays which party you are part of. It claims I'm industrialist, when I'm quite sure that I'm technologist. The game also seems to recognize that I am technologist, since I still gain the bonuses granted by the techies when they won the election, even though the senate vote screen says that my party still lacks control.
All of the quarterly reports have reported the Thalans as being the least powerful civ, whereas they are actually the most powerful in my current game (by far!). I am not certain if all the other civs have remained in the same order or not. I am wondering if this particular display isn't connected yet?
There is an occasional bug that causes starbases to stack on top of each other. As a result it shows the fleet merge display for the two starbases. Since there is no decomission button in the information display, this results in starbases that cannot be decomissioned. Obviously, this effect is only caused by a bug, but perhaps there should still be a decomission button in the information display, not just in the main display?
Another quarterly status report: "The humans are considered a good civilization with a military rating...." Another reference to humans.... but we're not human.
Ohh, a change from GC1 and earlier betas of GC2! I like it! So I'm still not clear on why my engines that were size 10 prior to miniaturization are now size 11?
Election preview quarterly report "Under a galactic republic, democracy or federation Earth's colonies...." Another reference to this "Earth" place, why do all of our Thalan records seem to be written by humans?
Status report screen "Humans currently represent 43.0 percent of the galactic population" This would be fine, except it's talking about me, the Thalans.
Researched the lowest level of miniaturization... everything increased in size by 10%. errr wha?
Bunch of "/n" marks visible in the viewpoint report display on the diplomacy screen.
Culture Wars Status Report: We have 0 percent of the overall galactic influence. This shouldn't be possible without having lost. Plus, I'm not losing...I'm winning.
I was able to purchase a colony ship early in the game that cost me some 1100bc, while I only had about 300bc. End result was my bc went negative by the appropriate amount, but honestly, I'm not sure this should be possible.
If you set your game resolution to your full screen resolution, yet have full screen deselected, it still behaves as if you had full screen active, i.e. no taskbar at the top of the screen, minimize/restore failure, etc. It would be preferred if we could get a window the size of your screen and still have the taskbar. After all, that's what not playing in full screen is supposed to mean
Game crashes after restoring from being minimized. Also, strangely enough, the game didn't give me a smart exception, which is a first... Game does NOT crash if minimized/restored while at the main menu. It only seems to happen while in the midst of a game.
I noticed that and adjusted the levels. Still didn't work till I reinstalled. Perhaps something got corrupted somewhere. Either way, looks like it works after a reinstall of the multimedia pack.
Event screen for first colony while playing another race still claims we're from "earth". I don't think the pesky earthlings would like the entire Thalan Empire to be on their planet
Reinstall appears to have fixed it.
It's not the windowed mode aspect. After running it in full screen, it still had no sound... Just finished reinstalling the multimedia component, so we'll see if that changes anything.
Hmm...tested with running in full screen mode from SDC, works fine (though still no sound). So it doesn't appear to be the full screen setting necessarily. Definitely something amiss... Checking other options...
