People really are out of control when it comes to games and "balancing". It's pretty much impossible to balance anything for anyone unless everything is the same. What work's for great for one person may be awful for someone else, but is it 'overpowered' because the person it works for uses it incredibly well? My personal belief is the best way to balance a game is to ignore balancing all together, there will be hardcore players out there who go out of their way to perfect the use of t

OpenCanvas is the way to go in my opinion, Photoshop really could afford an overhaul.
To be honest... I recall that people seemed fairly embracing of XP when it first arrived. I'm sure eventually we'll have no choice but to make the switch to vista, but that really lays in the hands of the third party developers. Vista seems pretty strange to me, it's riddled with annoying features targeting ma's and pa's who don't quite get these computer things and scare easily, but at the same time it has requirements that I don't think many of this groups systems could handle. And w
OS that works! Oh yeah, that's XP!
There will probably be a 'hotfix' in XP service pack 3 that breaks the OS and forces us all to upgrade to Vista >_>
had to wait all day to download window blinds and yet again i want to make my own i have to dl skin studio!!!
Why did you have to wait all day to DL windowblinds? Also Im a bit confused by what "customization studio dock" is referring to... Most customization software doesn't require additional pieces of software (or even runtime libraries) so I'm not really sure what the problem is. If you posted a description of exactly what you are trying to accomplish, I'm sure someon
You can go to View > Package Builder in icon packager to see all the icons that can be changed. You can change windows explorer's icon by right clicking the program going to properties > and selecting the icon tab. I don't believe there is any way for Iconpackager to automatically change icons of specific programs, though I'm running an older version so I can't be positive.
I urge anyone buying a new LCD to consider SOYO as a name brand.. its an EXCELLENT monitor, no gradients, no dead pixels...possibly my favorite purchase.. ever . Really bothers me that companies are pawning off these monitors with on screen gradients to people.. its getting to where people expect it to be that way when it doesn't have to be.
Wish I knew that before I bought my Samsung (sometime in october), thing drives me nu
Sounds kinda cool looking to be honest. I had a similar effect once but that was because my CRT monitor finally bit the dust... Have you taken any screenshots? They might appear correctly, and that might help rule out some problems.
Better compatibility with Opera browser?
I haven't encountered any problems with Wincustomize and Opera, are you running the latest version?
.that's somewhere between a less than tactfull personal opinion and a mild case of sour grapes for not being setup to be able to enter the contest yourself.
Twas far more tactful of a response than any that I've recieved. But alas, Wincustomize has always been riddled with cheerleader drones so I suppose it should have been expected.
You'll have to forgive me if I'm hesitant to believe that.
Now really what kind of response is that? Are you an industry leader in your field? If not, must be cause of the that post.
Would seem logical that it would have been more beneficial to Stardock to wait until Deskscape 2.0 for such a contest, that way allowing for a larger group of users/content makers. As for Alienware, wouldn't it have made more sense to hire someone as they have in the past? And if their goal was to get a quality Dream to distribute with their PCs do you believe it to be accomplished (considering the work The Skins Factory has done for them in the past)? And yes, you're right, the purpose
that doesn't make sense to me since dreams only run on vista ultimate.
Actually that's pretty much my point right there. Seems to be that's quite a small group of potential entries. Furthermore, it's not that Vista Ultimate users are the only that can run dreams, but they are also the only one's that can make them which is where my main point would lay. The general purpose of a contest is generally to generate as large of a group of content as possible to draw in attentio
Contest probably would have had a bit more entries if it weren't limited to people running Vista Ultimate...
I fooled around with the personal version for a bit, seems like a nice piece of software, but does the world really need another widget engine? DX has the advantage of being attached to Object Desktop, Yahoo and Google both have the advantage of being... well... Yahoo and Google. And Microsoft Gadgets are like you said 'all your base actually do belong to us and if you don't like it you might as well go hug penguins'. I've never been the biggest fan of gadgets, I just can't justify hav
I've got a copy of Vista in the drawer next to me... But the closest you'll see it to being on my PC is it sitting next to my monitor as a coaster.
I'd be one to argue the point that Copyrighted material on youtube is more viewed than non-copyrighted, I think it's probably the other way around. Think about videos like the Nintendo 64 kids, the UCLA tasering video, etc etc... As for snippets from shows and such, how can these companies be angry about that? If anything it's free promotion. Awhile ago I saw a clip from the Colbert Report, and I've watched it since.
Xerox offered up the technology to Apple, as Apple was at the top of the food chain and companies wanted to get in bed with them to ensure their future. Overlooking Gates' acquisition of DOS, he had quite literally infiltrated Apples ranks and claimed not only their technology as his own, but their look and feel. As towards self-taught programmers not innovating, I'm not sure if this would hold true in most cases. It may even be the opposite holds true, though I suppose that depends on
The only reason that MS is the monster it is today, is because of timeliness. Everything that served as the foundations for MS was stolen, and they got it to the public before anyone else. It had nothing to do with hiring smart people, good technology, or marketing (which has always been exceptionally awful I might add).
I wouldn't take much of what Gates says seriously, does anyone remember the trash that was 'The Road Ahead'. Though, this may go to show, maybe too much weight is put on degrees in a field that doesn't need them. Many of us grew up with computers or like myself are self taught. Mildly amusing that a market that was pioneered by individuals such as Gates and Jobs who left their studies to do so would put so much weight on degrees.
navigation column on the right, ey? Doesn't seem to feel right to me. Also could use some captions under the favorites. Other than those comments I think it looks great.
"Many past winners have gone on to create user interface designs that have been used by such companies as Alienware, Warner Brothers, Nintendo, Microsoft, Blizzard, and countless others." ... hmph... I need to get in on some of that...
Is Paul Boyer competing...?
I never really had much interest in WindowFX, until I tried the 3.00. The 'Window Tiles' feature is what I'm really interested in. I tried Microsofts scalable fabric way back when, and I really liked the idea but the program was far too buggy for my liking. So I was really happy when I saw that Stardock took up a similiar idea (and it works a ton better!). I do have a few suggestions for it, that I think would be great additions. I see that it scales from the top-left corner, I'd like t
