might try looking at your proxy settings to see if something redirected you. Open Chrome settings, Show Advanced settings. Under Network, hit the Change proxy settings buttons. (which opens IE internet settings..). Go to LAN settings. It should just have the Automatically detect settings box checked. NOTHING else. If you have something in the other boxes, that would be your culprit and something else is changing it.
Phoon
unfortunately, I am a left handed mouser. I've yet to find a nice gaming mouse that I can use with comfort. dammit!
Of course, anyone running an older version would need to buy a renewal key.
Not sure about that Jim. He did make this comment in the beta software discussion section of his forums:
I set the internal hard coded date of the v14.11 update (the date that is used to validate the license key) to July 21 2012 (i.e.; four months after the last v12.1 update). This way it will work
Question: Since you admit that it is based on Yosemite and it also contains an Apple logo, how can you legally charge for it?
Having to have an Microsoft email to do many things on the system
I explained to you on the other thread that you do NOT need to have a MS account to use/install Win8. You DO need one to get some things from the store, but you can simply enter your credentials for individual apps instead of switching to a MS account.
ok.. I'm only replying again in case you didn't see that your prescribed "fix" does nothing. Acknowledge, or not, it's up to you but at least I gave it a whirl. [e digicons]|-)[/e]
You can now download the Start8 app from your my downloads and use Start8tweak.exe as normal.
This does not fix the problem. I've checked it out on 2 different systems now.
Please download the Start8 app from your downloads
That made zero difference. The version in my downloads is Start8_1.47_setup_sd (which is the same version I had installed). Start8tweak still could not run unless I moved it out of c:\program files (x86)\stardock\start8 folder. I tried reinstall and fresh install. Neither made a difference.
I am a tech and I hate it when people think they need special attention by shouting in large bold fonts.
In the config of start8 there are options of what to do when you click the start button and windows key. Just select the choice of using the windows 8 menu for those. However... you still lose the right click options on the start button that are native to the OS.
I only wanted it to change the start button graphic Jim. I've disabled the old style start menu. and WTF.. Why would one have to drag the exe to the desktop to make it work.
I'm trying to use Start8tweak to unload Start8 which was the prescribed method in the past. Now, when you try to launch it, it just opens https://www.stardock.com/products/start8/update.asp . I'm already running the latest version (1.47).
WTF.. I appreciate a 50% off sale, but the activation servers seem to be hosed at the moment. Can't activate anything. (update: as soon as I submitted this post the activation servers responded) Also, tell me the logic of this: Stardock Alternative Activation This page provides an alternate activation method for when you need to activate a Stardock product on a computer without Internet access <
Thanks!! Just used it to renew both OD and WC Sub.
good info Jim. Interesting, they didn't put out an updated iso either as I had just grabbed a new one on Friday..
FYI .. you don't have to set it up with an MS account at all. Just tell it you don't have one (by selecting Create a new account ) and on the next screen you will have the option to use a local account. (Sign in without a Microsoft account option)
Here is what I want to know.. in case embed isn't showing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r1SCu9yiBlo (embed show in preview until i submit reply..)
Also, with a touchscreen, the controls that allow you to unsubscribe from a thread do not work. Because they only show on mouseover.
You forgot to remind yourself to uncheck the box. I think your brain has been "touched".
I think it's pretty damn awesome looking too. However... my PC sits in a covered area of my desk. I would want this puppy to be out on display if I had it. Nice to see someone doing something actually creative for a change.
goodbye, farewell and amen. If you guys ever decide to provide meaningful skinning with the native operating system like you used to , then perhaps I'll see you again (in these topics). In the meantime, I'll continue to be proficient with the true OS while the rest of the Start8 devotees continue in the dark ages. I understand that it has been a saving grace for the revenue stream and without it, Windowbl
umm.. yeah... So it really helps people evaluate a TECHNICAL PREVIEW by using a start menu that will now be how many versions old??? Kind of like using Windowblinds Beta on winXP and expecting useful feedback. Let's hope SD developers are able to skin the native start menu for a change (provided MS allows it).
I thank Phoon for alerting me to the wonders of VMWare. And I'm sure he uses it much more fluently than I do.
Jim, when you are ready to step in to the big sheep panties, try out vSphere. Imagine running 70+ servers on 3 physical boxes and having shared storage between them. Why.. Bessie would be singing your name in her sleep from your excitement!!! I know you wouldn't have the
maybe Stardock can whip up something to remove thoses.
I certainly hope is isnt another start8 that just puts you back at a win7 start menu. I would like to see a means to customize what is native for a change.
Windows 8 vs. Vista: Which is the bigger failure?
The thread is the biggest failure and been talked to death. It's just troll food...
Tom, In all seriousness.. this skin by far IMO, represents a turning point in the quality of your work. It shows an elegance and maturity that I've just never felt with your other skins. It is polished and precise and shows great attention to detail. Even though I don't use WB much anymore, I will be adding this one to the collection. Fantastic Job!!
