I don't know if it is in the newer versions, but in 8.0, they had a system included that would let you run Mandrake from the Windows partition. It was called "lnx4win". Easy to set up, but a little slower than a Linux native partition. Might want to check it out.
I remember going through this back in '99. I bet I re-installed Windows 4 or 5 times before I RTFM and figured all I had to do was change that one line in the system.ini file.

Pick u a copy of Tweakui for XP from here - http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp Once you have installed it, open the app and highlight the 'Taskbar' option. In the right hand pane, you will see 'enable balloon tips'. Remove the check mark, click on 'apply' and you should be set. That is, if I am thinking of the same pop ups as you all are.

The only thing that I would like to see capable of handling transparency is my Command Prompt. The reason being that I often work from the prompt and use Notepad to keep track of things. It would be easier if I could have my prompt in the foreground be transparent enough that I could see Notepad behind it.

I'm not sure if Kaleidoscope works with OSX or not, Paxx. I still have a Mac (albeit 2,000 miles away in storage), but it is still running OS 7.5, I believe. It was a really nice app though. I can't believe that I have been into customization for nearly ten years now. That could almost make me feel a little old.

It's actually not that much trouble once you begin doing it. I used to have a small library of 'User.exe' files created that I could switch out whenver I wanted to. It's just like any other form of skinning, it just takes a little patience.
Yep, sure is. Just follow these instructions. Copy the file USER.EXE from your Windows\System directory to a temporary working directory. Using an icon editor that can read executables (like Microangelo), open the copy of USER.EXE. The Start Menu uses the flag logo, the very first icon in this file. One thing that I have found helpful, was to quit using YAST2 when getting online updates. I found and switched over to using fou4s - http://fou4s.gaugusch.at/ It's basically the same thing, just more lightweight since it runs from the command line. How is KDE 3.1? I have been thinking of updating so that I could try the 'new' Liquid theme from Mosfet. I absolutely love that theme.
