In a recent interview in the Washington Times, First Lady Laura Bush talked briefly about what she's currently listening to on her iPod;

"One of the songs on my IPod that I love is Dolly Parton singing 'Stairway to Heaven.' So that's sort of a combination, country and pop."

That's just wrong in so many ways!

I'd have to agree. I like Dolly. But her singing "Stairway to Heaven" is sacrilegious! It should "only" be done by "Zepplin".

At least Ms Bush didn't mess up and quote the wrong song/wrong artist.

WHAAAAATTT?!?!?!?!

Dolly singing "Stairway to Heaven" would be like Nine Inch Nails covering "My Favorite Things". Or Marilyn Manson singing "Islands in the Stream".

Yuck!

Dolly singing "Stairway to Heaven" would be like Nine Inch Nails covering "My Favorite Things".

Does it mean something is wrong with me if this sounds intriguing to me?

Have you heard any of those death metal covers of Britney songs? I strongly recommend them if you have spare time.

Yes, I have...they were surprisingly.....not bad.

I also remember one of the performers (Marty Casey) on that reality show Rockstar INXS covering "Hit Me Baby One More Time", and it was great.

it took me a while to find my way into filesharing progs n sites and only then in hopes of finding stuff i hadn't been able to locate elsewhere. i was amazingly successful and became rather jaded. that's when i started searching for 60s soul men & women covering country tunes and vice-versa enabling me to indulge myself in such incongruities as the great solomon burke singing 'he'll have to go' and percy sledge doin 'help me make it thru the nite'.

while i'll happily pass on dolly's 'staircase' i'm thinkin she could sing the hell outta 'smoke on the water'.

I think Loretta Lynne or whatever her name is did a cover of 'Smoke on the water' - I'm not positive about that though.

well...i can't really spare the time to chase that down at the moment. i keep gettin hits for loretta singing 'there's all kinda smoke (in the barroom)'.

but here's the scary part...

it appears as if red foley recorded 'smoke on the water'

(if you aint rollin on the floor in shock or cuz youre laffin yourself sick, it's most likely cuz you don't know who red foley is)

it's a whole different song tho i guess cuz it spent 13 weeks at the top of the pop chart in 1944.
