Editing .tga files?

Ok, I am a little stupid when it comes to skinning. I do have SkinStudio Pro. When I go in to edit .tga files (buttons) they disappear. The files are still there and I can open them in PSP. But when Studio tries to look at them it doesn't see them any more. What am I doing wrong? Can someone give me a little more direction on editing them, I have looked for tutorials on skinning in Studio but haven't found anything comprehensive enough to get me started. Please help a n00b at getting started, I figure if I can run a program like Bryce 5, why is this proggie kicking my rearend.....lol. Thanks for any help, I am so frustrated that ....grrrrrr.

In SkinStudio, Tools, Preferences, Image editors, check Convert tga file to png before using image editors.
After setting this images will open in your graphics software when double clicked in SKS preview as a png. When save in graphics software then save in SKS png will be converted back to a tga by SKS. Most graphics software handle png better than tga.

Forgot to mention, if images do not open in graphics software you want, beside window above convert tga etc check box, click add, browse for .exe of software, once in list move it to the top.

Thanks bunches. Will give it a go and see how it works out. I would have never found that, again thanks, hopefully I will get some skins cranked out now....
