To those submitting Dock Icons, and etc....

Just a little note to uploaders. I see this a lot of this in the ObjectDock, Misc Icon, and other libraries.

There is no need to include the preview image in the zip file. Nobody needs it, and in some cases it's much larger than the actual icon. Also check your zips for "Thumbs.db". It's of no use to anyone.

I notice this stuff, because I'm on dialup, and it does nothing but slow me down when in the Moderator queue, I must download file after file, that contains these extra bits.
A good example.... today I downloaded a submission for testing. It was just over 300kb...... no big deal, but inside the zip, is a Thumbs.db, over 100kb. (I've seen cases where the extra stuff was twice the size of the submission) 100kb here, 50kb there, and before long, it starts to add up. Which brings up another point. This past weekend, we had a server problem. Submissions weren't getting through, because there was no more disc space on the upload server. I wonder how much space is being eaten up here by these unnecessary files.

Anyway..... just a friendly reminder.... be kind to those of us on dialup, and people with download caps. :CONGRAT:

I agree on a dialup download point of view

but it would be nice if i knew where to find some guidelines prior to uploading - do's and don'ts + i think those should be a required read prior to uploading

I second this...also it is nice to compress most files in lower space taking formats...e.g. .png, .tga, .jpeg.

Deleting the Thumbs.db is easy to do. Just before submitting the .zip file, click on the .zip file and it will open up to show whats inside. In most cases there should be additional .zip files (if your submitting more than one file) of your submissions. Click on each one and you will see the Thumbs.db that is always included when you zip something up. Just right click on it and choose delete. Do this for each one until they are gone.

In addition to what Koasati said, I've noticed in many submissions that people are reducing the preview screenshot image to a thumbnail. This is not needed since your preview screenshot image will automatically be reduced in the library. If you reduce it, then the enlarged preview image will just be a another thumbnail, and in some cases smaller than the reduced image library preview and the person wishing to see a larger image won't be able to.
