Skinning Themes

Hello,

I would like to know how to create my own DX themes since I can't find any suitable ones ANYWHERE. I'm very picky, and hate clustered desktops. Anyhow, I'm curious what programs you use to create your themes. Does it also involve some know-how in programming? I'm grateful for anyone who can answer my question.

Have a nice day.

if you do simple, you don't really need scripting knowledge DTX does quite a bit of it for you

Hello,

When you say DTX, I'm assuming you mean Desktop X. What if I wished to create a sort of navigation interface? Would that require scripting knowledge and anything else? When you say scripting what languages are you referring to? Hope to hear from you soon.

Have a nice day.

what type of navigation interface?

per the documentation (link above), developers guide, scripting, introduction: DXScript allows you to program in either VBScript and JScript, two of the most simple and common languages available. This document is not designed to teach you how to program these languages, we assume you know the basics.

Type of navigation interface. Well I was thinking something along the lines of something that rested on top of the screen, and had various abibilities (like the calender, weather, quicklaunch, search engine, and possibly some other things). I'm not familiar with any kind of scripting so this would take a little time for me to get the theme I really want. You were saying something about a link. I don't see any link unfortunately.

which version of DesktopX do you have: Client, Standard, or Pro?

quite a few desktopx themes have parts of what you mention - you might also look at those and see how they were done.

one of my favorites is: Link

So basically what your saying is take another's work, and re-make it in my image correct? Hmm...that one you showed me is kind of...I don't know. Maybe he should have been a little more clarifying in his screenshot, because I don't know what I'm even looking at.

understood...i kinda felt the same way when I first saw the screen shot

the little square button is the hide/show for the rest of it

when 'shown', everything else is in the middle of the screen on a separate background -as you go through the options on the left, the background stays but the icons change to match the new options.

if you don't like one you download, you can always delete it

pretty much. most skinners understand, everybody has different tastes - and it is what 'customization' is all about - you apparently don't want to accept 'windows' as is...why should a theme be any different? Seems quite a few skinners create with that in mind...they recommend changing the colors on Windowblinds (some skin in certain colors since those seem to accept color changing better) - a lot of DesktopX theme creators will also put in extra pngs and such so you can add more shortcuts and what not, give you instruction on cloning and setting targets on the clones, etc.
