Beta 4D Moral

I suddenly find myself completely focused on keeping Moral under control.

Is this the emphise that Moral will have in the final Game? I'm sure my play style was sloppy when it came to Moral in previous builds, but half a planet with Moral projects and still @ 57% seems outta wack.

Looking for new stratagies to keep the masses happy.....

I noticed i need to keep tax between 60% - 70 % to keep the population happy as the approval goes to 1% otherwise

One thing you can do is hover the mouse over the morale listed in colony mgmt screen.... it will show you exactly how you are getting that %.

Planet quality, taxes, boosts from social projects, etc etc.

60-70% taxes is an extreme amount of taxation.

I had my taxes at 60% in an existing 4C game, loaded it in 4D, and my approval rating dropped from the 80-90% range to 29%. However, I got back over 80% just by dropping the taxes to 45%. A good bit more realistic, I know that if my tax rates were 60-70%, I would be working under the table or taking a rifle to the nearest clock tower.

Here's a tip: If you have taxes > 50% people will tend to get pretty ticked off.

In the United States, few people pay over 30% in their taxes -- and they still get mad.

Tandis, agreed completely, and I mentioned that it's a good bit more realistic.

Yeah, I think you guy's are probably correct, I think the prior build let you really squeeze your people with not as much consequence hence the sloppy play style. This is much more realistic, as long as the AI has to deal with it too...

I just restarted a game from Beta 4C on 4D. I find that if my tax rate is at 49% my home planet's approval rate is 36%. If I move my tax rate to 50% my home planet's approval rate drops to 1%. I think this is a bit excessive.

Does war factor into the races tax approval.I would be happy to pay higher taxes to build more ships, if the Drengin were at the doorstep.

I have found that morale is always WORSE on my homeplanet. What's up with that?

What is the population on your home planet versus other planets?

I am now playing a game started fresh on Beta 4D and I still see a manifest drop in morale when I move the tax rate from 49% to 50%. It goes from 76% approval to 1%, just for that 1% in tax rate. I think this is excessive in the extreme.

We agree.  Will be looking at it this weekend.

It looks like the morale/tax rate has been modified, but there is still a glitch in it on 4E. At the very start of a game I get the following tax rate/morale values: 45/85 46/85 47/84 48/83 49/82 50/75 51/74 52/72 53/71 54/70 55/68. In fact, it follows a nice curve from 19% tax with 100% morale to 74% tax at 23% mroale except for the sudden drop between 49% and 50%, and another sudden drop at 75% tax to 1% morale.

Hope these values help.

Again, it looks like this should be beta 5.
