Maybe it's...
I know I'm using some of their images without permission
...causing issues - it does with other skins

and yet that Internet Explorer 7v2 skin is still here ROFLMAO

And yet countless other skins are using copyrighted images without permission.

kol should have obtained permission from MS before releasing
this skin. After all, it is nothing more than a port of a skin.
kol has ported many Apple skins, but the difference is that he
had approval from the authors.
Why should this skin be any different? ... it's a copy.

Has Microsoft ever given permission for anything?

Without charging for it, I mean...

They don't strike me as the benevolent type.

If that's the case I think all the skins using some sort of MS graphic should come down. I still fail to see why the other Vista skins are still here.

Kona...you were always slow on the uptake.

Read #36.

....and try not to be confrontational when a little reading can explain all....

Still dosen't make sense that they would target you. There are plenty of Vist skins out there. Why are they exempt?

Kona....ask Microsoft that question.

It's pointless asking it here....

Point taken. I just think it's unfair to single out one skin when there are others.

@ kona0197 : I ask them that in my e-mail let see if they reply.

There are a zillion Longhorn skins out there.  It's like free advertising for Vista.

I think we can all see both sides to the issue. Maybe Kol should have asked for permission (as if he would've gotten it). Microsoft is a huge company with much wealth and resources, so why should they care if someone uses a couple of their images?

Maybe if Kol was making money off of their images, then I could understand. Wincustomize.com doesn't even make money off of it. At least I doubt they do.

And why would Microsoft be going after an imitation of Vista, when anyone can go on just about any Bittorrent website and download any beta version of the actual Vista OS.

Microsoft needs to get their priorities straight.

Too bad, Kol. It's a wonderful skin. I'd like to see what they say in reply to your latest email.

It's odd that Microsoft is being demonized for protecting the rights to its images while at the same time are given indirect praise and congratulations through admiration of the "skin" itself.

MS actually seems to be moving in the direction considered fair by many above--maybe they are doing some research before calling out other similar skins for removal. It could be the use of the "Vista" ( & "XP") brand and the direct use of images they can't stand for, but skins which emulate the look and style without treading on copyright are acceptable.

We also have to remember it's not Bill Gates making the decision. It's probably some people from the legal department who want to cover their asses. And probably want to cover Kol's ass too. I don't think MS would want to have to sue Kol to get him to remove it. Big companies don't and can't always act like nice guys. We shouldn't blame MS for doing this, but they should have gone about it better.

but they should have gone about it better.

Their only 'mistake' was in NOT initially contacting Kol directly.....instead there was an impression of discriminatory censure towards Wincustomize.com only, where we appeared to be the only site requested to remove it from view, although that was likely through simple ignorance...

Hey KOL,

I love your work. I have been using vistaxp since the day you released it. I hope you dont get discouraged by this and please dont listen to the idiots on the other forums playing your work down. I can't find where they have contributed to the community as much as you have and they certainly do not have their work on as many desktops as your work. You sir truly have a talent and I/we have been enjoying your work for years.

I just want to say a big THANK YOU to KOL for all the YEARS of hard work that has benefitted all of us tremendously.
