Bigger butts bring need for longer needles

Yet more evidence that the world is getting too big in too many places. Fatter butts are causing problems with delivery of medications via injections into the rumps of the ever larger citizens.

I'm glad I still have "a flat butt", but I can see where this could be a serious medical issue in the future if we aren't careful or don't resort to extrordinary measures (like longer needles).

Study - Longer needles needed for fatter buttocks

CHICAGO (Reuters) - Fatter rear ends are causing many drug injections to miss their mark, requiring longer needles to reach buttock muscle, researchers said on Monday.
Standard-sized needles failed to reach the buttock muscle in 23 out of 25 women whose rears were examined after what was supposed to be an intramuscular injection of a drug.
Two-thirds of the 50 patients in the study did not receive the full dosage of the drug, which instead lodged in the fat tissue of their buttocks, researchers from The Adelaide and Meath Hospital in Dublin said in a presentation to the annual meeting of the Radiological Society of North America.
Besides patients receiving less than the correct drug dosage, medications that remain lodged in fat can cause infection or irritation, researchers Victoria Chan said.
"There is no question that obesity is the underlying cause. We have identified a new problem related, in part, to the increasing amount of fat in patients' buttocks," Chan said.

Hmmm...I have a fat ass, as opposed to your flat ass. This makes sense.

I had an antibiotic injection a few years back for a "kidney infection" that I supposedly had. The drug was an irritant anyways, and they put some sort of cortisone or something in it to take the pain away. Needless to say, my poor toukus was sore for two weeks. Too much fat, I guess.

But when I had that demerol shot after my car accident....oh man...life was grand...

The sad part is that I'm sure someone will claim this all has more to do with some curse of the fairer sex, since the study sited was looking at women, not men.

Next thing you know, we'll be hearing that God discriminates against women

After sleeping on the issue, I seriously wonder just how much longer they're gonna wind up making needles to solve this problem? And gee, perhaps I've been right all along to insist that I'd rather have a shot in my arm than my butt any day of the week.
