Newbie...Here

Hey all

I've been a member since August. Been trying to get some of my skins approved, guess I'm packaging them wrong in the upload. Anyway, I would like to create a object dock tab and icons. Anyone know where I can get a how too lol. Any help would be appreciated

In the 'Backgrounds' folder is a readme which explains the contents of the required ini files.

One way is to dissect someone else's background & see how it's done.

Hey Patriots; the text file Chris is referring to is called Skinning The Dock, for me is in Object Dock folder, ODPlus.
I downloaded one of your bootskins that is awaiting moderation; the screen image must be a 16 color 4 bit bitmap, the 24 bit image you have used will not work. When you get the image right and are ready to upload open bootskin app, select skin in list, click File, click Export skin to file, this will package it properly. You should also use the same name for folder, bootskin, and upload name.

For your icons (should be saved in PNG format) there's a very indepth tutorial by Mormegil in the tutorial section (Article Tab) You can use the "Browse Site" box on the lower left side of the page to type in search requests. Remeber to choose the section in the drop down box. Icondeveloper (part of Object Desktop) will import just about any graphic and convert it into an icon.

Okay, I get the 16 color thing..But, I can't seem to figure out how to get the 4 bit part. I have 3 file converters and not one of them is doing it. Am I missing something?

I use IrfanView to decrease to 16 color, when save is saved as 4 bit bitmap. http://www.irfanview.com/
Gimp 2.2 will also decrease to 16 color and save as 4 bit bitmap. http://gimp-win.sourceforge.net/stable.html
In IrfanView, Image, decrease color depth.
In Gimp, Image, Mode, Indexed.
Both are free.
