IconPackager Crashes upon loading

Hello

I really liked the "copper deck 2" so I figured Id take stardocks software for a test drive. Every application works fine except iconpackager. It crashes upon loading, (after clicking continue evaluation period) occasionally giving an error message having to do with "seperate processes" or something along those lines. IconPackager will not uninstall, and I have since tried to reinstall over the initial install with the same results. Crash upon load. Oddly enough however, most of the themes icons installed during one of the crashes although several are wrong. They can be changed manually but its difficult without also changing file extension associations. My firefox browsers icons remain unchanged although IE has been changed.

At any rate, no matter how much I manaully tweak the icons to get them to appear, I know Im basically screwed when my evaluation period runs out since it fails to uninstall and crash upon loading. Who would purchase software they knows will crash before purchasing? Any help would be appreciated in solving these issues.

"seperate processes"

What this means is it wants you to NOT run explorer in seperate processes. It order to get it to like that particular issue, do the following:

1. Open a folder, any folder, and click on "tools".
2. In the drop-down menu, click on "folder options".
3. Click on the "view" tab.
4. Click on the down-arrow on the scroll bar twice.
5. Clear the "Launch folder windows in seperate process".
6. Click "apply" and then "ok" buttons.

That should help you with the issue you have explained. I recommend buying the Object Desktop Subscription, it is way fun to fiddle with. Happy skinning.

Followed your suggestion and it was unchecked ( I snuck a quick click on the error messages repair suggestion before it shut down completely once and it must have changed it.) It still crashes unfortunately.

Any other ideas? Is Iconpackager dependant on any particular services I may have disabled?

also look in your themes folder and see what packages are in there, you path may be different than mine: C:\Program Files\Stardock\Object Desktop\IconPackager\Themes

Not to my knowledge.

Thats the pathing I have. The specific individual theme folders are in the C:\Program Files\Stardock\Object Desktop\IconPackager\Themes folder.

Several, including themes (which enabling didnt work) I run near bare bones to cut down on overhead, thats why I asked. Easier to ask what IconPackager depends on that what I have disabled. If the OS or my dsl connection doesnt need it to run, its most likely turned off.

As far as the themes, I read something not too long back about a package that was causing IP to crash when loading. Try taking out the packages and seeing if IP loads. If it does, then try loading it after putting back one pack at a time to see it you can find a bad one.

If that doesn't help and nobody comes by with a solution and you can't uninstall it - try this: Link. I haven't had to use it yet, all posts I've read say it works. It's to remove any Stardock Products that glitch on uninstall.

I am not aware of any service dependencies with IconPackager.  I wish we could be of more help, seems the real tech geeks are sleeping or soldering an optic cable back together.  Good luck!

According to the site, version 3a

I removed all but one. The copper deck 2 set that was currently in use. No dice.

Removing the icons I did get to work by chance and the zapper will be my last resorts toward the end of my trial, if nobody comes up with an alternative solution by then. Its not a big deal until then because for now I got it looking pretty good.

One final question, does iconpackager normally ignore the firefox browser or is it just one of the things my crash prevented?

Thanks for all the suggestions!

FireFox is skinned differently. It uses it's own method for the toolbar icons and such. The only thing I get skinned on FF is the outer edges. Yes, it normally ignores it (unless I'm doing something wrong and don't know it).

Glad CD2 is working for you. Does IP still crash with the others removed?
