Married Now - It's Just Sinking In

Not alone anymore

So 14 months of dating culminates in a union. A union of two older adults is like negotiations between countries.
Infrastructure has to be built (relationships with children and friends).
Treaties have to be negotiated (we don't have to say sir and ma'am at my house).
Languages have to be taught (family means ... home is ... politeness is... )
Rules of engagement have to be developed (cold shoulder after a fight is against the rules, fight til it's done and then get over it)
Cultures have to be learned (spaghetti has olives, showers are at night, frappacinos are on Saturday, for Christmas our tradition is...)
... but the treaty is all negotiated now... they are signed... the dignitaries have come and gone...

Now, I get the reality of telling the repair man to call my husband back and give him a quote. My husband... the echo of permanence in that is a strange feeling in my mouth.
My husband, spoken casually offhanded without thinking, but it rumbles around in air, comes back in thru the ear and echos ECHOS in my head...
My husband.
Solid and real in my bed. IN MY LIFE.
wow!
Feels good...

Good blog, and well written! I'll check out your site.

I just caught myself about to wish you "good luck" on your marriage. Instead, I wish you a marriage that takes you places that you've never gone before, and gives you the strength to discover yourself--and your spouse--to a degree you never thought possible.
