My point is this: never doubt Bill Gates. Whether you think Microsoft and Bill Gates are evil is beside the point. If there's money to be made, Bill Gates will be the one making it and thus, Xbox 360 will become the most popular system.

I'll doubt Gates due to the creation that MS put out long ago. Its name was Microsoft Bob. He may be successful but that doesn't mean he's flawless. Mind you, he tried to get Longhorn to be another patched version of NT. Only after some convincing that he finally said "okay, scrap it and do it from scratch."

People used to think Squaresoft is flawless too. What happened? FF7, FF8, FF X + X-2 comes to mind. People will always doubt something that may be a big thing coming. It's inevitable and you can bet that there is a possibility, no matter the chance percentage, that it'll flop. We might not see it happen but it can happen.

Gamers like better graphics. Gamers like more selection in games.

I'd like to mention that as a gamer, I prefer the quality of games than the graphics. Yes, graphics is nice and all. But I'd like to know that good quality games can still be made using substandard graphics. I'd still play Ninja Gaiden II and Mega Man 2 because it's fun playing those games. But I do not need some super-fancy ultra-realistic graphics in order to grab my attention.

... the Xbox was a piece of crap, technologically speaking, and yet...here it remains.

Quoted for truth. Common commodity PC hardware hardwired together into a console-style system. It's only here due to developers finding it easy to port some of their stuff to the system, especially those who have already done some work on the PC platform. Then there's the shelling of oodles of dollars from Microsoft just to force it to become a success, as well as Halo, Halo 2, and the ever-growing mod community to produce home-brew games and emulation ports.

The 360 is an interesting system, both in technology and in ability. But so are the other systems. Wait and see, folks. Just wait and see. Judge it when it's out and it's there. Judge it when games are being released or when there are none. Judge it for any hardware glitches and crashes. And judge it for how easy it is to modify the system to run home-brew software.

The 360, PS3, and Revolution are going to tell us where we're going. Just go with whatever bandwagon you feel is the better selection. But save the criticism for later.

I agree with you almost completely. Except I'm not saying he's flawless. You're missing one key point: how good something is has little to do with how successful it will become. This ought to be self-evident. The very sub-standard games you used as examples experienced tremendous success. Go to gamefaqs.com and tell me where FFVII stands on the top ten. That it is even in the top ten at all is amazing. The game was released eight years ago. I'm not saying Bill Gates is infallable. Just incapable of not dominating the market.

Windows is hardly the chosen operating system among hardcore computer geeks and yet it is by far the most widespread because of it's ease of use. Likewise, hardcore gamers will suffer at the hands of a once-esoteric past-time that has become to popular for it's own good. I'm definitely ignoring the good parts about video games becoming popular, but as a general rule, as things become more popular in the mainstream, they tend to lose their soul. But soul doesn't relate to the bottom line.

I hope xbox 360 will be more succesfull than xbox .

I think both ps3 and xbox360 will garner its fans the question who will be more success full?

With that i mean make more money in the end.

The technical specs doesnt make it all that for either consoll.

Playstaion has had fanbase since ps1 and thats one of the reason xbox 1 didnt became they success they thought it would.

For me its gonna be a xbox 360 when it has come down in price a bit simply because it has a much stronger starting point than it ever had with xbox ,more games in lineup, basic live free etc.

Ps3 maybe can do all that but still xbox 360 gets more plus for me.

Really disappointed with the the few games I have played on 360. The alias is terrible when running at HDTV res. Will still get one as I pre-ordered over 5 months ago... just hope the next few generations are better.

Well if you had been gaming with an HDTV previously, you know that aliasing has a lot to do with how your HDTV is tuned itself. So, many existing xbox games look really crappy if your HDTV is not properly set up, although the 720p games that I have aren't as jaggy. But I think that people who don't know what they are doing are going to have some issues initially and that includes these stores that just plug em in and turn them on. I have yet to make it out to a local store and play it though. I'm always curious if their demo machines are even using component cables. Regardless every console system I've ever seen at a store sucks compared to how I make it look when I get home. I've seen home video(from a camera) of demos from E3 that didn't have jaggies, so I'm really holding out hope.

I really hope it does go the way of the Dreamcast, then I'll be able to pick up one off eBay after Xmas, instead of shelling out a fortune for a new one.

A console without games is no fun.

Get a game system for what it is. A game system. Nintendo all the way. Play the games. And join the Revolution. When was the last time there was an original title that you would want a 7 year old to play on the X-Box or PS2? When was the last time there was an original game on either of those systems that didn't take an engineering degree, 15 fingers to play, and that you could pick up and play in 2 minutes? There is only so many ways you can blow someone up.

That is exactly why no game system is better than the other. It is the games that matter. If someone likes specific Xbox games then they will favor Xbox. If they favor Nintendo games, they will favor Nintendo, etc.

I agree with post # 33. Playing games that require cheatbooks to get through them is rediculous. Gimme some old time good game playing, not interactive movies.

Well whatever game console is better so be it. Bottom line is my PC can beat both in terms of hardware and graphics.

xbox games is usually very easy to start with but they are hard to master some of them and the same goes for all consoles.

in essence you can push the hardware much furher on consoles ala xbox then you can on pc because on pc you need to make sure the game works on most hardware.

In this case xbox you have one platform thus make it in the end much easier for game devs to push the envelope if they want to that is.

But as said before some people will like xbox game and some ps3 games etc because of several factors.

They said the PS3 would cost 500 at minimuim

If they sell it for less, then they are selling it at a loss of which will be interesting to see for the PS-Sony station.

XBOX, you do not HAVE to buy any of that extra stuf, but from what I read the PS3 comes with it because it is the entertianment system, NOT a gaming system with extras.

Everything mentioned for the XBOX is not something you hae to buy. You cna jst get the XBOX with some sort of internet connection device and your good to go.

From what I read PS3 comes with all this gunk that you have no choce but to buy. Unless they change that, it is to focused on non-gaming for my good.

500 USD? I just don't know.

Just so you know - about the PS3:
What it will cost: No one knows for sure yet, but estimates have it going for $400 to $500--and Sony is still expected to lose money on the PS3 in the first couple years. All the cutting-edge technology--Cell processor, Blu-ray, and the specially designed Reality Synthesizer graphics system--could push the price into the stratosphere, but experts say Sony won't let that happen.

I run a entertainment and tech website so i get this stuff emailed to me as well as reading it. This is from Yahoo's Tech Tuesday.
http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ttpcworld/123348&cid=1740&ncid=1729

Sony is going to sell it at a loss because with all that junk in the trunk, there is no way its going to cost 300 dollars.

And we all know XBOX is going to price cut when the PS3 comes out. I have to say that the XBOX is better mainly because of price and that you can do all that 'add on' if you want to. PS3 makes you buy the stuff.

I can't live down the XBOX Live and the ability to connect to your PC somewhere down the line. They only thing XBOX is missing is the 25GB dvd DISK.

Its got the games I want while PS3 might have more games and has usually satified me, I just can't put out 400+ dollars in one shot. PLUS I want the PSP too? PLUS it doesn't come out until march maybe and even then the games for it won't take advantage of the new tech until the following year?

Just get the XBOX. Keep your PS2, and get the PSP. If you wait until next year... say May, you might get the XBOX bundle for 350 as they try to undercut PS3.

Looks like Sony MAY be implementing technology which, if they use it the way they used the rootkit on their music CDs, will prevent people from borrowing, renting, or buying used games. If this is the case, Sony may be shooting itself in the foot - as I don't know how many fanboys will go out to buy every game they want to test out... and then find out that they can't sell it again, because it won't work with someone else's system, or can't rent it over the weekend if they hear it's short but kinda fun.
