WindowBlinds 5 BETA 2 available

Animation, 64-bit Windows support, and more!

Stardock has released WindowBlinds 5 beta 2 this week.  WindowBlinds 5 is designed to customize the look & feel of the Windows GUI.  The new version has been completely re-architected to be significantly faster, have more features, and provide new effects for skinners.

Beta 2 includes a host of bug fixes, performance optimizations, and more. Here are some highlights:

  • 64-bit Windows support
  • Per-Pixel frame and title bar animation support (skinners can create some really cool animated title bars and borders now).
  • New WindowBlinds config can switch back to Windows XP style
  • Updated WindowBlinds config makes new options easier to see.
  • Adobe CS2 support enhanced
  • Fixed AdMuncher issue
  • Toolbar skin installation improved
  • Full screen background per pixel support for shutdown dialog.
  • Lots of bugs fixed.
  • New performance optimizations

The beta is currently only available for Object Desktop users (www.objectdesktop.com).  WindowBlinds 5 should be publicly available before the end of the year.

I know all the WB skins being uploaded here now are all WB5 ready. This is a party only for those with Object Desktop. But keep hope soon the rest of you will be invited. Don't cry

You still can only get WB to show in the display properties dialog if you upgrade from 4.6, not if you do a clean install...

Arrow skin menus (reflection map) still look bad if you run any DirectX app (eg. DVD player w/ overlay, 3D game, AOL explorer, etc.)

Someone needs to remove the previous post as it contains a user's serial # in there.

You need to buy object desktop to get ahold of wb beta 5. But if im correct if you have bought it before september last year you get wb5 free? Im not sure on what the date was...

New beta works like a charm. Fixed the bug where sometimes it wouldnt apply the taskbar of the skin. Im loving the beta.

i bought windowblinds recently, can i upgrade to windowblinds 5 beta now or ONLY object desktop users can? it looks awesome

You must have purchased WB after or on Sept. 1 of 2005 and you will then be able to upgrade to WB5 when it is officially released (not a beta). Beta versions are ONLY available to Object Desktop users/subscribers. If you purchased your WB program before Sept. 1st, when WB5 is released publically, you will be able to upgrade to WB5 at a discounted rate.

I have XP 64 but it says that WB5 is incorrectly installed. Uninstall and reinstall WB4, all works. Hints on registry or files I have to clean out before installing 5?

Still only Windows classic is applied with this and 4.6. What's gone wrong

Interestingly enough, since I updated SDC to the latest version, WB5 does not show up as an option to install. Any ideas?

Hmm, WB5 shows up in my display properties dialog after a clean install. Did you manually remove all files left behind by WB4 after uninstallation?

Stardock has supplied a file http://sd.stardock.com/remove7.zip that will undo the changes made by the last update (or so I believe), and WB5 should be visible again.
