And in the games where i had it the most, i didnt destroy any colonies (the only reason i can see to do this is if im changing my allignment, which isnt necessary on the larger maps)
End of quote
Today I played a medium, tough, common, tight cluster. I was hemmed in East and West by the Yor and Alterian and by the map edge in the north. In the South I did not have the range to get to two yellow stars until I colonized a PQ 8 planet on the border. Then with the extra range from colonizing the 8 PQ, I could colonize the two yellows. After colonizing the two yellows, I destroyed the 8 colony.
It seems to me that colonizing a low PQ planet with 1 person on a colony ship to extend range is cheaper than building a constructor to extend range plus I didn't have to shift away from military to use tech to extend range. Let me know if there is a better way to get rapid range expansion very early in the game but a one person colony ship seems inexpensive to me.
Fortunately, today on 1.05 I got away with destroying the colony and it did not CTD. I even saved the game as CTD immediately after destroying the colony. LOL. There was only one CTD in the entire game today and 3 in the 3 previous games whereas before there had been 4 to 6 per game. Thanks again for the tip Black Shade.
