Ban Holloween? Boo on you!

An elementary school in Massachusetts has decided to ban Holloween because "some" parents said it offended their religious beliefs.

What beliefs?  How can a pretend day offend religious beliefs in Mass?  This is the state that just legalized gay marriage.  I would like to know what religion approves of gay marriages, and not a costume pretend day?

Jewhovah Witnesses?  I think not!

This is not only stupid, but dangerous!  Next, these scrouges (sorry wrong holliday) are going to object to the Winter break!  Why?  Because taking Christ out of Christmas offends their religious beliefs!

When are these pencil neck school administrators going to understand you cannot cave to every demand when it comes to all religions?  Is not this caving the very opposite of the separation of Church and state one that got Christmas banned in schools?  Now those crackpots are using their religion to dictate to all the students at the school!

And the Principal went along with it!  And teachers wonder why many people dont hold their profession in high regard?  When you get Principals, former teachers who 'got ahead' making stupid decisions like that, what else are we to think?

The last intelligent thought that principal had was the one where he decided to become a teacher.  I wonder if he is blonde?

Way back when, the dinosaur age, Halloween in school meant we got to try to have the coolest
costume for the costume party, we'd parade around ( outside) the school with the teachers to
show the neighborhood how cute we were, then we'd have apple juice and cookies.

I don't think that this was celebrating Satan, or anything evil. It was about children having a party
and of course it was a sweeter time in the world....

HAHA.

I am not shocked by this Doc. My son has been to 4 diff schools in 4 separate states and none of them celebrated Halloween. Not one. We had harvest parties but no costumes or the like.

My kids got to wear their costumes to school on Friday. And there was no ban on scary costumes.

Yay!

Do we really want to sanitize the world to this extent? Our children's lives are going to be devoid of all the wonder and magic that come from these silly celebrations. Ugh.

I agree!  Holloween was created by candy manufacturers in conjunction with teachers as an excuse to have a party and sell candy! And I think it was and is a pretty good idea.

That's a shame.  The schools my kids went to, not many chlidren would be wearing costumes, but most of the teachers did!  And the kids loved it.

We don't celebrate Halloween (or teach our kids about Santa, the Easter Bunny, or the Tooth Fairy, for that matter), but I've always considered people jerks to spoli it for those who DO want to celebrate it.

Everything offends someone, so if we cater to wastes of flesh like those who want an offense-free society, we'll end up with nothing. I would assume someone who celebrates Halloween would have the constitutional right to express that in any way they like.

I guess not. A few more years and this will be the Unites States of fekking France. Screw freedom, only saving hurt feelings matters.

Some folks could ruin a wet dream, so why not Halloween too? These people ar so miserable in their little lives that they just can't stand to see anyone actually having fun. Egg their houses I say!

I agree - people who get offended - offend me. You don't have to participate but don't ruin everyone elses fun.

In Maryland, we had book look day. You could dress up but it had to be a character from a book. Brendan went as captain underpants. He was so cute.

We have the harvest parties too. The kids can dress up for a limited amount of time and the costumes they can be are very limited too. What is the point.

This one flies in the face of all that they have taken away tho!  Before it was to make sure of the separation, this is being dictated by religion!  As Baker said, damned if you do, and damned if you dont.
