Mail Call!!!!

Why is the sky blue? Because it's sad.............

Due to a complete lack of creative ideas tonight, I present to you NBS mail call. Bring me your questions, I will have an answer. If it touches on me or my blog, great! If not, I'll do my best, but I reserve the right to bullshit you. Now what do you want to know?

Help me, help you. The doctor is in.

How can I turn off the destruction mode in my puppy?

Lots of exercise, supervision, crate training, obedience training, and bitter apple spray (which works great, and is available at any pet store, I use it with my cats).

I already posted a link on your article to a site that will tell you more about how to deal with the problem.

Failing that find a pair of pliers, put down some newspaper...........

What is the best sauce for small children?

I'll take this one, in the form of a running cadence:
"Napalm sticks to kids."
And it's spicy.

My questions:
Should I make a grab at a BA in Liberal Arts from Excelsior, with a personal cost of $350, four classes ahead of me, and an almost-guarantee of getting it within a year, or trudge towards an Associate Degree that matches my current Associate, but for Computer Science instead of Arabic (and I wouldn't achieve it within a year)?

And:
Should I reenlist for an instructor position at Goodfellow Air Force Base for a three year assignment, potentially leaving behind my family, or not reenlist and be stuck here for another mission?

Good luck.

No, although it is somewhat difficult for a mute.

Depends on how you cook them. Obviously having smaller sweet breads, the Hannibal recipe with fava beans and a nice chianti is out. I personally think that while napalm leads to overcooking, that with the meat resembling a suckling pig, it would be best to do a slow roast from the buttock, or perhaps prepared on a spit. Generally, use the same rules as for pork, but remember, "long pig" tends to be more fatty, so watch carefully to prevent smoking or burning.

If you use a spit, you might try a thick molasses and brown sugar barbecue. It's non-traditional, but should go well.

With a roast, or with chops, you might try this. Take a bit of pan scrapings, and saute with some onions or shallots and garlic in a tbsp of butter for about a minute. Add a cup of a sweet red wine, about the same in beef stock. Toss in salt and pepper to taste. Simmer down to about half a cup, then add another tbsp of butter to bind, and a couple of tablespoons of brandy. Pour directly over the meat while still warm.

For a wine, Shiraz would go well with it baked, but for roast I recommend Pinot Noir, especially the recent vintages of Kendall Jackson which are well priced, and have a nice, rich, almost nutty flavor. Bon apetit!

Tough call, but in interviewing, a BA generally trumps the associates. Either way though, you're competent, experienced, and should do well.

If you're going to do the extra time anyways, I say go for Goodfellow, even if you have to take your family "on the economy." It's a nicer town than the Killeen area, and a better place for a family. (albeit way the hell away from anything.) Beware the Air Force Defac though, it's deadly.

Hoo-rah!!

Were (are you, since yes, once a marine.......) you a marine? Either way, hope you got some closure out of that. Here's a big Army Hoo-ah, and goodnight Chesty Puller, wherever you are.

How much wood could a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?

The adage is a woodchuck would chuck as much wood as a woodchuck could chuck, IF a woodchuck could chuck wood.

HOWEVER!!! the woodchuck, also sometimes known as a whistlepig, is in fact an overgrown ground squirrel, part of the family Scuridae. (Marmota Monax) In fact, you may know him as the common groundhog.

The groundhog is a burrowing creature, and is probably getting ready for hibernation right now. It eats no wood, instead getting it's name from an algonquian name, wuchak. So unless you poke a stick or limb down it's hole, a woodchuck in fact would chuck no wood. And if you do, it'll probably take your damn hand off.

Next question?

Possibly, but more likely she is preparing a dose of thorazine and a butterfly net.

Ok, Question #2:

If you are watching your Favorite Raiders (who just won), and she asks what inning is it, do you:

A: Brain her!

B: kiss her and tell her it is the third

C; Tell her brother who is also a Raiders fan?

D: Explain the concept of football through reanactment. Get her to dress up in a Raiders jersey (and nothing but) and tackle you onto the bed......again....and again.......and again.......even if it takes all nine innings.........

Ok, here's another question...

If the speed of light is a constant, but light can effected by gravity, how can the speed of light be maintained against the pull of gravity without an external source of energy?

should I take a medical transcription class to make some quick money so's I can teach yoga full-time?

And, why is Syberia so freakin' addicting?

Do you have any recommendations for games similar to Syberia?

Finally, an easy one. Light effected by gravity doesn't change speed, it just changes direction and moves along a different vector. Although high enough gravity (say at a singularity in the middle of a black hole) can warp space and time, whatever fucked up time you're in, even overtime, light will still be moving at the same relative speed.

The million dollar question is where does it go when it gets to the center and can't escape?

Hell's yeah. Yoga's great. Provided you don't do that weird-ass using your hands to clear your sinus thing and just stick to the stretching and exercises.

And, why is Syberia so freakin' addicting?

I'd say because it's about puzzle solving, neat gizmos, and the fact that you can't really die. The using of cell phones to advance the plot is cheesy though.

ermm.........off the top of my head, no, although I understand there's a sequel. My wife is heavily into the puzzle solving games, I'm more of a first person shooter kind of guy.

I'm heavily into Kingdom of Loathing online, (I bet you'd love it.) on a console, my favorite games have been the Medal of Honor series, all of the Evil Dead Games, Medevil I and II, anything with Spyro, the Final Fantasy stuff, and oh yes, a weird little problem solver: anything involving Oddworld.

Ok, but... when things change direction, it requires an increase of energy to maintain the speed. Light going past a black hole is easy to explain, since the gravity is a source of increased energy. But what about the light of a laser through a beam splitter, through a prism, or even through water. No energy is added, yet the light is "bent" and once through the medium of change, continues on at the speed of light.

Ain't physics fun!! (especially theoretic physics). Oops, that's too questions. ;~D

I'm actually with you on that reasoning. HOWEVER, you may have missed the part of the question that is bugging me, so I'll reiterate:

Should I reenlist for the instructor position (my only choice for reenlistment right now, that's where they'll assign me and I'd have to decline the assignment and bar myself to reenlistment if I don't reenlist) potentially leaving my family behind (money isn't the issue, here) OR do I not reenlist, risk the hat trick of mission here, and then get out?

Excellent Advice!  I will give it a try this week.
