Stability in GalCiv beta 3A

So how is stability in 3A? Are you able to play a full game without it crashing? If not, where does it seem to crash?

Haven't had a crash yet. Maybe I'm just lucky.

Galciv has always been remarkably stable for a beta, at least since I got it.

This is the first beta version that I've been able to play with (due to screen issues on my end, not yours).

Once I get to the game its impressively stable. My problem is it keeps hanging as it starts. Uninstalling and reinstalling fixes it, for the first start, and the next time I start the game it hangs. I'd send you an error log, but it doesn't seem to load anything to give a log for...

But the game itself is really stable ;)

Getting about 1-2 crashes per hour of play.

All non-reproducable with savegames and no apparent logic.

Since Smartexception dont work I cant help out.
The debug.err gives no clues.

No crashes but there are a few weird bugs

Mainly influence. I played a game and I had a 8-10 digit influence rating for about 10 games.
At the moment the dialog that comes up when you try to go somewhere out of range comes up either when the AI has moved or at the end of my move, and I can't dismiss it for 20-30 clicks. I don't have any ships going anywhere out of range.

And on the same game the Yor who where one of the most powerful empire in this game, who I was allied to, Gave themselves up to one of the minor races. wierd huh!!

I have had one crash on 3A but nothing since.

On version 3 I was counting the crashs by the gross.

So far once it hung on startup causing me to re-boot my computer... but I think that's because my computer is a piece of crap.

Wyrenn,

Once today I had GC take an UNUSUALLY long time to come up, but I don't know what caused it. It certainly was not what I normally expect.

I get a lockup (everything stops, no music, keyboard does nothing, can move mouse but nothing happens) about every 2 hours of game play. (:(

No SE report. I've sent my saved game(s) and debug files to Cari and tied a special build that helped a little but did not eliminate the lockups. :notsure:

I run into the occasional crash to desktop, but never more than once every couple of days. In every case, SE produced no report.

The game does lock up during the intro.bik, but only if I don't reboot before playing, so I'm of the opinion that it's something on my end being disagreeable rather than a problem with GalCiv.

I keep getting kicked out to windows everytime I do any trading with minor races and then press the turn button. I was able to trade earlier, but now in the midgame I don't seem to be able to.

I also noticed that it kicks out to windows when you click on the minor races tabs when there are no minor races.

But other than that the game is very stable and much faster overall.

My games have hung on the startup from beta1. I'm sure that it's something with my computer.

So far I've had 3 crashes to the desktop in beta 3A. This is much better than any of the other beta releases.

There was no consistent thread amongst the circumstances of the crashes.

Unfortunately SmartException caught none of the crashes and the debug.err file held nothing useful.

No crashes yet. But have had some other problems, such as all my planets dropping population from 500+ Mil to less than 50 Million on one turn, and my income hits negative
and will not change regardless of my changes to spending and allocting of those spending resources.

Were you looking at minor races by chance?

I could of been I remember the Torians wanted to show their support be helping us distory one of the minor civilizations. I said to myself thats nice but I did not know I was at war.

I had another crash last night that maybe related to a bug. I can see two Alien Civilizations were mad at me so I wanted to begin to boost my military for the war which was coming.

I was friends with the Torions and went to see if I can trade to get a few war ships.

I offered a technology they were willing to give me 3 Battle Cruisers. So I asked for more some of their Technology and a few more War Ships. They would of accepted.

Wow lets see how far I can take this, I asked for all their Technologies, then war ships and then Planets. The queue keept increasing and increasing and they were going to give me everything for one of my technoligies. At one point a white horizontal bar got painted on my screen but there is no limit to my greeed. If an Alien civilization wants to sign over everything for one technology who am I to complain. I carried my greed too far and the game crashed.
