Sid Meier, possibly the greatest game designer in history, has a really interesting interview over at Slashdot on Civilization IV, the game industry, and a number of other topics.

I think that Sid Meier is highly overated. It's a nice guy who had some nice ideas (many were just copied from board games) and was lucky. As Civ is the only game of that type (apart from Call to power), it doesn't have any opposition and has, thanks to that, a large following (The concept CIV appeals to anyone). Now, i believe that there are so many things wrong in the design of this game that there's no point picking up number 4 (i still play 3 from time to time despite it's numerous flaws just because it's a fantastic concept) as it will still have the same design flaws...maybe even more. I'd really love to see Stardock do it's own type of Civilization...i am sure Frogboy and his team would do it right and much better.

My two cents.

Cheers
