Hmmm... Censorship? You tell me.

*laughing*

I'm sitting here chuckling. After responding to an article earlier this evening, I just now returned to the article to find my reply gone, and left with no option to add a comment. I didn' t get some message saying I'd been blacklisted, but could someone explain to me if that's what happened?

I find this very interesting. My post was not offensive, did not demean anyone (or even speak to anyone in particular), or do anything else that I can think of that would cause someone to disable my voice. I find it comical that anyone would be so threatened by ME, that they would eliminate my offerings to the discussion and prohibit me from further comment. So much for free and open discussion, eh? Too funny. ;-)

Perhaps I'm wrong, and there's just something wacky going on with my settings. I don't think so though. Anyone care to hazzard a guess?

There's no reason I would know of that would cause that other than the obvious. I suppose they could have closed their article to comments. Did you see if you could comment on others of theirs?

Dunno which one you are refering to, so maybe the blogger in question will pipe up.

You've been blacklisted, obviously.

You haven't been censored however. You still have the ability to speak...you still have a voice...through your own blog.

If you wish to expand on your deleted comment...or even just resubmit it exactly as it was posted so that others can read your POV, you are free to do so own your own blog.

We all blog for different reasons, and not everyone is interested in "free and open discussion," hehe...as evidenced by your experience today. Blacklisting is a pretty useful tool for creating the type of environment you want on your own blog. A nice little space of the world where you get to be the boss and say what goes and what doesn't. And now you know that that particular blogger is...umm...sensitive...to...umm...whatever it was you posted, hehe.

I've never seen you be belligerent, off topic, or obscene. Haha, now I'm dying to know what you posted that was blacklist-worthy.

I'm still learning JU etiquette, so I don't know if it's appropriate to mention the blogger's name or not. The article has several comments posted after mine, and continues to gain responses, so it's not closed to everyone apparently, but only to me.

I happen to know that the blogger disagrees with my point of view vehemently, but still... I was respectful in my response (I thought) and can think of no reason for my post to have been deleted, other than just that it wasn't appreciated. Guess I overestimated the level of maturity here....

I don't know if I can get back to it in order to post it here... at least exactly as it was. Maybe I'll check my history pages... too funny.

Ok... couldn't get back to the page (it reloads as is now, not from my cache... grrrrrrr). Basically, I was responding to this quote from Iconoclast's article (http://iconoclast.joeuser.com/index.asp?AID=88829:

Erwin: "It's according to what your heart is saying. If your heart is humble and you have the lord using a message to send along to America we need to wake up. Your heart will respond in humility saying, "Lord, whatever it takes, begin with me to do what's right.
If your heart is hard, you'll turn away. I can't define what men do, I can only say what God would be honored with."

He actually believes he can read God's mind.

My point was merely this... we cannot read God's mind. His thoughts are higher than our thoughts, His ways higher than ours. We CAN, however, know -- at least in part -- what God would be honored with. He has given us His Word that in many instances spells out what pleases Him, if we'll take the time to open it and read it. I then listed four or five verses of Scripture (I'm sure this is probably what was objected to) which clearly state what is God's will, what pleases Him, and what brings Him honor. There are many more than what I listed, but was just giving a sampling.

My post didn't even really address whether I thought the Senator was correct in his position regarding New Orleans and the Gulf Coast, I simply spoke to the fact that firstly, he didn't say that he could read God's mind... and secondly, that it IS possible to know to some extent what honors God (if you're a person of faith who believes the Bible to be God's Word.) I understand that Icon obviously doesn't... many don't for that matter and I understand that. I couldn't believe it just got deleted, though. LOL.

One of the things I love about JU is that I get to come here and have open discussion with people who are coming from a different perspective than I. We won't always agree -- in fact, we will probably rarely agree -- but I enjoy musing with you all and sharing our beliefs. It's sad that some are just not grown up enough to handle someone who differs from them. Live and learn. :)

I think we know which one.  I commented on it as well and then wrote my own.  I find it highly offensive and intolerant.

And HC, can you post what did on the other.  I would be interested to see the source of the controversy.

not everyone is interested in "free and open discussion,"

Seems that is the order of the day.

Maybe I'll check my history pages...

That has brought down many a hypocrite!

Tried to go back and get it, but to no avail. I posted the general gist of it, minus the Scripture references. Here's what I can remember... portions of Scripture that tell us what honors God...

Hebrews 13:16
And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.

Prov. 14:31
He who oppresses the poor shows contempt for their Maker, but whoever is kind to the needy honors God.

1 Thess. 5:16-18
Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.

There might have been one or two more, I can't remember... but they were only meant to serve as an example of how we CAN know what honors God, just as the Senator said.

I'm not sure why he would blacklist you.  Perhaps he didn't want to hear a practicing Christian's point of view...maybe all he wanted was non-believer's har-haring and saying that he's right.

I don't think you're obnoxious enough to blacklist, though....

You said it a lot better than I did!  Given his latest crusade, I guess you harpooned the white whale!

Well said and well done.

Tis ok, we were actually posting at the same time.  My previous post is how I think you got BLed

You were too good!  And those with no arguements cannot stand that.

Aaaaaaw... thanks! . Nice to know I'm not THAT obnoxious! Hehehe...

I don't know if I'd call it good. Maybe too "preachy". But thanks.

No , good!  Dont sell yourself short.  That was and is an attack on a person for the simple reason they are Christian.  And you defended well.  I am ashamed at the attackers for being so shallow.

Ah, yeah, I saw that, and didn't notice that it had gone. This thing that makes the page skip down to the last comment caused me to miss it, I guess.

Like he said, he has blacklisted preacherman and Aeryck. I can't talk much, I've temporarily blacklisted one or both before. The difference here is you were making a point relavent to the blog, and Aeryck usually just uses other blogs as awkward segways into his own ravings...

Anyway, he's probably just lumped you in with all the other people he intolerantly writes off as meaningless. Evidently, if we all killed ourselves the world would be a better place...

It's strange you should be brooding on the same thing that's going on the back of my mind. I did a post recently and it was actually a philosophical question. By way of emphasizing the message I had to cite several links, two of which selectively could not be connected to my post, but were otherwise accessible via Google. http://scatter629.joeuser.com/Link Don't you think they'd make matters worse if they messed with bloggers?

It seems I may have confused this with an article about a British tv show that claims Bush said God told him to go into Iraq or whatever...my bad.

No problem

I still think the blogger in question is an intolerant bigot.

Definitely intolerant... at least from what I've seen, which granted, is not much.

The difference here is you were making a point relavent to the blog

Thank you for pointing this out.

Evidently, if we all killed ourselves the world would be a better place...

Aaaaaaaaack! Not one of those VHEM wackos...

Wow HC, you blacklisted?! I'm amazed, you're a gentle giant! Sometimes others might differ in their views but that's not a good reason to block someone from their blog. Now being offensive and downright rude, yeah, good reason!

I think a big part of the blacklisting was that Icon has never read her stuff (he calls HC a he), and just saw the scriptures and jumped to the (wrong) conclusion. I dont think anyone reading her would lump her with Aeryk or Preacherman. Or even Marvin Cooley.
No, I think Icon just hates seeing people quote from the Bible. At least people who don't agree with him.

Hey Bellisama! still creating hate and discontent huh? Gentle Giant??? Not obnoxious??? You sure have these people fooled! JK!!! !
I had to laugh at this situation tho! As your usual self that I admire so much you used scripture to back up your point of view. Well done! I agree with tyou Dr. Guy, HC does sell herself short. She is a great writer and I have read several of her writings.

Damn!  I guess I am going to have to read it.  being a Catholic, they did not require that in Religion 101~

(Oh, and you can name names in your articles, just not in the headlines, that's a no-no.)

Thanks, LW! I need to know these things!

I haven't been back to his blog. Did he address this? Gonna have to go look now, I guess. And yes... definitely a SHE. I don't think I've ever seen anything Preacherman has written, and while I might agree with Aeryk on principle once in a while, I think he's more extreme and legalistic than I am (and I do consider myself a strict conservative Christian, so that's saying something). Never heard of Marvin Cooley. But thank you... I think.

(((((((((((((((((Hugs)))))))))))))))))) right back at ya...

I gather you are a fan?

Let's see... he has arrested me once (didn't you?), come to my rescue when some wacko I met on the net showed up on my doorstep (and profusely lectured me on giving too much information out on the internet (YEARS ago... before I became so net savvy...rofl)), is my best friend's Dad, and my son's Godfather. A fan, yes... and a royal pain in the butt sometimes... ROFL

Chak... thank you for this:

It's a shame that Icon deleted HC's post. Those christians who are simply trying to live ordinary humble lives of compassion and service to others, open-minded enough to be admit when they are unsure of things, but clear enough about what matters to them and navigating to a steady moral compass will never make headlines. But to suppress their voice so that only the Erwin's of this world are heard is a deliberate distortion and an argument that relies on wilful distortion is already lost.

Hmmmm I must be slacking off!

Dr. Guy, ....More than a fan. HC led me to Christ! What more can I say? She is a super young lady. Well most of the time anyway! !
