WB5 & graphics drivers

Don't...

OK I am in serious trouble here. WB5 was working excellently but I hadnt installed new graphics cards in about 3 months. I just installed the new nvidia drivers for my 6800 GT. Post reboot- major problems: I get 2 svc host errors after logon. If I say OK to the first- the PC just freezes up completely. If I say cancel, then it runs OK-ish but had to uninstall WB5 and it has also screwed up my soundcard and network drivers.
This does not seem to be an nvidia driver problem- it is more tied to the interaction between the new drivers and WB5 as WB5 looks all corrupted.
At the moment it looks like the only solution is going to be wiping my c drive and reinstalling windows... not an ideal solution by ANY means!

Don't wipe the PC. Boot into Safe mode and rename the dll's (specifically wbsrv.dll) in the WindowBlinds directory. Reboot. If you're still having problems, it's nothing to do with WindowBlinds.

If that does get you back in gear, please contact [email protected] with specifics as to what happened.

And have you tried system restore? Also available from safe mode.

The dll rename didnt seem to work.
I tried system restore and it did not help either- I still got the same problem. I have now formatted XP again and had to re-install everything (taking quite some time!).
The first thing I tried is WB5 and it works fine- but I'm not going to upgrade my graphics drivers for some time!

I would suggest the support team try to replicate this though- just take a PC with old NVidia drivers, install wb5 and then upgrade the drivers... I'd be interested to know if its just me or ...
