I was an OS/2 user back in '95 or '96. It was an awesome OS but lacked panache. I used the TabLaunchPad, Control Center, and of course, skinning.

I switched over to Windows (3.1 and soon after Win95) about that same time because it was obvious that they were going somewhere and OS/2 wasn't. Windowblinds was there with me. I used the shareware version of that for years. Soem builds were slow and buggy but each release was better and it was worth it to have something other than the default look of Windows.

In 2001 or so I, wanted more than the shareware offered and wanted to customize more than just the Windows skins.

Enter ODNT. I've never looked back.

In the meantime I've subscribed to wincustomize, bought Natural Desktop, Unorthodox Skinpack, CursorXP+, ObjectDock+, TotalGaming subscription, and ThinkDesk.

Stardock makes some amazing software. A lot of it I don't use all the time (ND is a good example) but the development that they do is worth the investment. In fact, I think it's worth more than the cost. Would I pay more for it? Yes I would. Would my wife give me THAT look? Yes, she would. Could I buy her something pretty to justify the cost? I have and will again.

hm.... I think it was while Win95 was still a current OS. I was playing around iwht many apps to make the computer look cool. Espesially inspired by sci-fi films. I came across WB, version 2 something then I think. I used the shareware for ages, on and off. (Win9x+Skinning=NotGood) The freaquent updates to WB made me come back and keep trying it out. I assume it's from there I came across the rest of the ODNT suite.

I stumbled upon WC while googling for custom icons. I never knew then that you could change the way your GUI looked so drastically. Once I realized what I could do, the rest, as they say, is history. "Sage" by Pixtudio was the first windowblind I ever used. It is such an amazing skin, I still go back to it every now and then.

It was from a magazine article - PC Mag, or PC World. I actually found it twice, once about 3 or 4 years ago, and then just last February. The first time I just wasn't ready.

I found out about it through an email from a friend who uses NextStart and compared a dock in it with a program called ObjectDock. Well, I, as an Object Desktop and Wincustomize subscriber must of been blind not to have known about it. So, I tried the free version and bought the plus version just the other day!

I originally used just WB which I had discovered by visiting the skinz.org site when I got interested in Winamp's skinning. Then Wincustomize.com came along and I planted myself here. I still only used WB but had interest in other programs. However WB wasn't always stable on Win98 so I just kept with it.
However once XP hit the scene, things were so stable I was impressed. I decided I now had a machine that could support what OD had to offer so I jumped in. It hasn't failed me yet.

A PC Magazine called "Computers For All",the only respactable PC magazine had an article on desktop customization some years ago. That's when i first saw Windowblinds and the link towards Skinz.org,since then been following Skinz.org to WC,and when OD came about i just knew from news bulletins here and at Stardock's home...

Well. I remember how I came here. It was because of school. I was in a IT program and we got laptops and was on-line in class and eventually I was online at home too through Juno.

I somehow came across the WinAmp site. Not sure why or what made me go there. I installed WinAmp and downloaded at least 100 skins.

Then, somewhere in 2002... maybe January or February... I was looking for more Winamp skins and came to wincustomize (and deviantart too). I downloaded the free trial of windowblinds... then bought windowblinds... then I bought OD.

My friends in school were inpressed with my new laptop look. Even my profesors.

Sometime late in the last millenium while looking at graphic applications in the archives of "HotfilesDotCom, I kept seeing references to Stardocks products which sounded very interesting. It wasn't untill doing a web search for something other than the Win98 "clouds" wallpaper that I was directed to the WinCustomize galeries. Thats when the kid in the candy store took over my mouse, and here I am...still!

I did a search for "Desktop Customization software" on Download dot com.
I liked what I read about DesktopX, so I purchased that, I think there was some kind of special bundling it with CursorXP.
It only took an hour or two before I bought an upgrade to the whole OD suite.
Definitely one of the best purchases I've made.

From you (Brad) mentioning it in comp.os.os2.apps sometime in 1994-1996

From there it was a matter of evolution much like Zubaz (#26).

I'm one of those people that like change. When it came to Windows, every time I found out that there was something that could be changed (Wallpapers, colors, sound, etc.), I did it. Then after using a desktop theme program for a couple of years, I was looking for a new wallpaper, was lead to this place by Google and was immediately HOOKED! The rest as they say, is history. (Who says history is boring?)

I had never heard of OD or windowblinds for that matter. My long time friend buzzh58 had always talked about changing " skins" etc. I yawned at the time. Finally he convinced me to download 1 blind. I still yawned. And as soon as he was " gone" id unload the blind and get back to my safe unskinned world. As he became more interested in wincustomize I decided to force myself to try a little harder to like " change" He and I use to " Theme " together..then one day I found myself " theming " alone....and enjoying it. The rest is History. But..I honestly dont think I would have bothered as much if not for him. These programs were not easy for someone like me that had very limited computer knowledge at the time. He spent hours explaining how to use each program. I was lucky to have had top notch kiwi tech support .

Looking for wallpapers I found this site, then from there I saw the windowblinds section. Then I bought windowblinds, then 6months later I got Object Desktop.

WindowBlinds from skinz.org Thought WB looks snazzy & elegant.

Last spring, I was looking for icons. The ones I downloaded in the past looked old, but in the malware age, I felt uneasy about what I was finding. Along the way, began to read about different kinds of skinning-- plusses & minuses. The StarDock approach made the most sense & the site didn't give me spyware. I tried a couple of apps & just when I wanted more (a day or 2 later), SD released an OD update. I was in hog heaven

I was sick and tired of what I now know as Luna.. Did a google for "desktop themes", and came upon this website.

I just remembered the other part-- why I started reading about different kinds of skinning-- I was frustrated when I would try to change something in windows (ex, colors, taskbar size, icons). Either I couldn't do what i wanted, or it would revert when I restarted the PC. The bad old days

I used to bitch and whine a lot at the guy who came up with it.
