How Do I fix this?

I am working on another port, and have hit a snag. The original vs had a compact menu only. When I tried to make a full menu, I couldn't get the bottom bar to stretch. So I physically resized the image in PSP. As you can see, I have some magic ping at the bottom outside edges of the bottom bar...I have tried everything I could think of to get rid of that, but can't do it.

Also, the user name at the top. For the life of me, I can't get it to reposition in either the compact or full start menu. For some reason, no matter what I do with the text position settings, it won't change.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

If you click on that bottom bar in SkinStudio, look on the right side for the section "Size of the Bottom Bar", where you can change the width of it.

As for the username at the top, I cant really help you. I know its a sucker to get to work right, and I've never quite gotten it, but hopefully someone will swing by who can give you a hand.

Right, I snooped around at your WC page and I think I found the picture you meant to link to.

Right, when you resized it in PSP it blended the magic pink with the rest of the graphics. This is because it tries to make up for the missing data when you scale up. The result is that the pink edges you see there isn't "magic pink". Magic pink is ONLY the colour composed as RGB(255,0,255) - Full red, no green, full blue. If there is even a slight deviation from this, even by a value of 1, it won't be magic pink any more.

In order to avoid that you'd have to select the area in the middle that doesn't have magic-pink at the edges then resize that bit by it self.

(odd that SKS couldn't resize it... I'm sure someone here will be able to help with that.)

OOPS! Sorry about that....try this one Link

Cerebro, I tried that...the new size would show up on the right side, but not with image itself. It's like he had some weird setting in there, that I couldn't change.

Ok, I will try that! I gotta leave for work shortly, so I won't have time to do anything until I get home this afternoon.

OK..I tried resizing the middle part, and that didn't work either! I have never had a problem resizing the bottom bar before...this is so weird! Any other suggestions out there?

Hey jazzymjr, I have been playing with a couple skins, can move the text anywhere with text position settings. For a full start menu the user pane controls size, does not matter what size is set for bottom bar. Sounds to me like something went wrong when SkinStudio converted the VS or the VS was not done well originally or that maybe something has gone wrong with your install of SkinStudio. When testing moving name I changed every other setting to see if any would stop text positioning from working, it worked no matter what anything else was set at. The first thing I would try is to convert the VS again, save any images you have added delete it start fresh.
I have SkinStudio 4.6.0 Build 1071, free version.

Cavan, I have had no problem with any other skins, as far as changing text, size of the start menus, etc. I did uninstall the VS, and reconverted it, but to no avail....and I forgot to save my images! I have Skin Studio Professional...whatever the current version is...I just updated it last week.

The thing that is weird, is when I change the size of the user pane, the bottom bar does not move...with every other skin I have had, the bottom bar moved when the user pane size was changed.

I am totally stumped!

It must be something weird or wrong with the VS then, unless you really need to have I suggest to find another to convert.

Is this a UIS 1.0 skin, or a UIS 2.0 skin?
Cerebro, it is a UIS 2.0 skin.

Okay, I got the text fixed...I changed the X and Y things! I still can't get the bottom bar to work right when I try to make a full start menu. Anyone else have any ideas?

Mary Jane, If you are still having trouble with this start menu, I can fix it if you send me the skin.

Sometimes I have noticed after playing with sizing that I have had to reopen the image in editing program and use a pencil tool set to the magic pink color and go overe all the pink !I cant see the screen shot but most of the time it is a few stray pixels that get distorted so going over the magic pink again ensures the EXACT right pink shade!

Boxxi...I got that fixed ages ago! That was in my "infancy" in skinning, when I started with ports to see how the skin works. Thanks for the offer of help, though. I appreciate it.

Avman...magic pink is a pain in the butt, ain't it? This skin was fixed long time ago. In these past 2 years, I think I finally learned most of the stuff about skinning blinds. Thanks for the input, though...it is so true about the magic pink...I don't know how many times I have had to go over and over it.
