Why I do not submit my score to the Metaverse

I'm just curious, for those of you who have not submitted your score to the Metaverse what is your reason(s) for not doing so.

Also, I see there are many scores that have been submitted but they don't show on the metaverse because your player name has not been registered. If you were unaware of this then visit http://www.galciv.com/playerreg.asp and register your player.

For me, I usually have no time to finish a game before the next build or before a permanent game crash (this was more in previous versions).
So it happens I play 3-4 games before the next build but none gets to the end.

Crashes, as I mentioned in my (not responded thread Bug report; Balance issue). I can of course any time trade my tech for all the planets of all races and submit my score, if you like. Do you ? ;)

For me it often does not work. I'll submit a score and it'll never appear. Maybe it has something to do with me using 2 computers?

Because I can not win :sniff!:

I've only managed to complete one game that would have been worth submitting to the metaverse (and I was off-line and out of reach of an internet connection at the time) :)

The rest of the games I've started have either crashed or have been used as experimental platforms to try out various strategies and game functionality.

Looking at the scores that have been submitted there are quite a few who have submitted their score but they have not registered their player name so there scores do not appear on the Metaverse. So if you want your scores to show on the Metaverse be sure to register your player!

Also, I thought I would take a look at the won/lost ratio and about 35% are games lost and 65% are games that were won. There is nothing bad about submitting a game that you have not won. Who knows, if its a good score it may get you a good rankng!

T-Man,

At this point in the development of GalCiv I think the ranking may not be of any value. The game is going to continue changing for a while. There are many features that are not yet in that will affect play and change advantages of player style. I think it may be a good idea later in the beta, once all of the features are in the game, to reset the metaverse.

Yes at some point during the beta the Metaverse will be restarted and it will most likely be restarted when GalCiv goes Gold.

However the Metaverse is part of the entire experience and we would love for people to fully utilize even during the beta. As with any system there are bound to be bugs and issues.

We do have greater plans for the metaverse in the near future but this is the first step.

In my case, I only get one or two games completed between betas (I didn't actually finish the game I started on 1Y), and AOL and GalCiv don't play well together here, partly because, I'm sure, of the fact that my system doesn't actually meet the minimum spces for GalCiv (and the fact that I'm running it off of a USB 1.1 drive, and end up with a 12-45 second delay any time the game has to load something from the drive).

Personally I play the larger maps, and go for a long term game. I don't submit mainly cause I don't get the game finished :) A new build might come in, or a crash happens, a problem grabbing the next build, work commitments, other commitments etc...

I have submitted a score (a loss to be exact) and attempt to submit another one (failed to register.. think it crashed or something) but that was a while ago.

There was also the save game incompatability for the last build..

Basically.. I'd submit, if I ever got a game finshed ;)

Oh and another thing.. I'm on a dial up, so I might not be on-line when I do finsh.. does it do an autosave prior to finishing so I can reload it when I am on-line to submit?

Pat,
Landwaster's last comment is a good one. I also play on dial-up and have to remember to connect online once I win a game BEFORE the score submission screen appears. It would be nice if the score submission screen appeared and then REMINDED you to log on to submit your score, OR saved your score to be automatically submitted next time you log on.

That is a good question. I don't have the answer for that one. Boogiebac should know. I will try and get ahold of him and find out.

Ok, checked with Scott and here is how it works.

Once the end of the game is reached it checks to see if you are connect. If you are not connected then you do not have the option to submit your score. And unless you had previously saved your game there is no way to go back and load you finished game after you have connect to the internet to submit it.

So Scott and Cari have put that on their list of things to do.

Once they get some system implented where you can go back and submit your score then I am sure that will help increase the number of submissions for those who use a dialup.

A way to submit scores (and update the AI strategy stuff, once that part is up and running) without starting up GalCiv would be useful for those of us stuck with less capable computers (and ISPs, for that matter).

I can't start GalCiv once I'm online for various reasons (I actually have to reboot the computer to run GalCiv 90% of the time, and always have to after shutting GalCiv down or crashing it), and if I log on after starting GalCiv, it may not switch back (I don't know what causes this, but it's not unique to GalCiv), or may die out trying to close or switch back out to the desktop.

And in the specific case of people on NetZero or Juno, those clients will kill themselves when they switch back to GalCiv to finish the game and submit their scores.

The only real problem that I have encountered is a long pause when submiting my scores. Almost like GC is locked,
can last 2 to 3 minutes. Then it reverts back to the start screen.

Ideas?

BTW, I did register, but no scores show up.

When you register you need the serial number of Galatic Civalizations?

The only Serial number I have is Dregin Game Manager ?

Pat, I've just submitted to the metaverse as "gherardo".
Can you check what/if something arrived?
I do remember that there was a problem about adding the @ sign for the mail and so was for me :(

Thanks, Gherardo

I tried submitting a score to the metaverse last night and while I'm registered and didn't receive any error messages during the submittal process my score has yet to appear on the list.

Okay....I just tried to resubmit when I got home this evening and it seems to have shown up this time.
Puzzling.

I finished a second game last night, did an alliance win with all but one of the 'partners' left. I wasn't even prompted to submit the score to the metaverse. Particularly annoying since it had earlier in the day successfully submitted my #8 scoring win.

Technician: Yes, Drengin serial number or GalCiv serial number will work. Looks like I need to edit the page to make that more clear.

Gherardo: No I didn't see any score submissions for you :(

Magus: It appears you submitted under two different player names, Magus and Alias. Presently, only one player name can be registered at a time.

Dominic: Were you connected? As stated above you must be connected in order to have the option to submit. This will be fixed in later a later build.

T-Man - Yes I have a broadband connection and the machine is always connected to the internet.
