Random applications freezing

I just downloaded WB a couple of days ago and love it but it will freeze applications at random (so it appears) so that they can not be clicked, operated or moved in any way. Right clicking on the task bar allows me to close the application and then carry on as normal. When an application freezes it gets a pink border across the top of the title bar and down the right hand side. I have added several applications to the exclusion list and tried deactivating my anti-virus without joy. This is pretty much a clean install of windows (lesss than a week old) and with the only game I have on here the screen judders when scrolling around the map. The application that freezes may sometimes be Firefox, sometimes Outlook and sometimes the WB configuration screen itself. Un-installing WB cures all problems. I can not find any errors in the event log, does WB create a log anywhere?

Windows XP pro with SP2
2*2400 AMD MP's
ATI Fire GL 8800
Dual monitor

any ideas?

It doesn't mean much to me but I did find the followinf in a file called WebCrash.log at the root of my C drive, I have no idea where it came from (Webblinds, Firefox, Explorer etc.):

Get Web Blinds off your system or disable it in IE.....

Thanks for the reply.

Windowblinds was freezing applications before I installed Webblinds, I added Web blinds as another post had mentioned it fixed a similar problem for them. I have since rolled back my PC using System Restore and Web Blinds is no longer on this machine but I still have problems.

I too am having similar problems with WindowBlinds when using a skin.

Emptying Norton Protected Recycle Bin's Protected files loads up a "status" window during deletion. At this stage WindowBlinds (WB) causes the system to Lock up.

Why WB? Cause when WB is unloaded this doesnt happen.

Another case I encountered was Asus Bios Update utility. When flashing EEProm (a window with 3 status bars) would lock up.

I think that WindowBlinds cant handle some programs that uses their own status bar. WindowBlinds tries to skin the status progression and that is where an error might occur causing the hang.

So far affected programs for me:
Norton Systemworks 2005 Premier
Asus Bios Update Utility.

I also have a similiar problem with the newest version of WindowBlinds causing my system to freeze. However, I can't end task on anything. It just Freezes. I uninstalled WindowsBlinds 5 beta and reloaded WindowBlinds 4.6 and the problem went away. I am hoping they resolve this situation soon so I can install WindowBlinds 5

Same problem here. There are times that when I close apps, it seems to be closed but the window is still there. Its taskbar button still visible but if I try to close it.. nothing happen. I end up restarting explorer.exe to resolved the issue. I think this issue only applies to perpixel skin cause im using it when this happen
Reply #7 Top
Thanks Antu you were absolutely right. If I choose a skin that is not per pixel then no freezes. Did not try that since I turned off per pixel and it did not help. At least I can run WB5 just cannot use cool skins.
Well seems that using Windows Blind 4.6 , it runs stable without any freezes. But 5 is the one that causes some apps to freeze.

I've occasionally had non-clickable taskbar buttons remaining after a window is closed, usually with 'per pixel' skins but not all. Closing Windows Explorer resolves the issue, however. I will ocasionally get 'not responding' with various applications under 'per pixel, but it's intermittent and I can usually end them in Task manager without a restart.

i also have the problem of occasional application lock. any idea if this can be fixed with an update? i really like the vista blinds and would hate to give up transparent titlebars by going back to v4.
A couple things you might want to try:

1) In the WB 5 config, under "Troubleshooting" enable the option that fixes corrupted titlebars. It draws/paints the skins differently.

2) Update your video drivers. The unresponsiveness maybe video related.

3) Windowblinds 5 is BETA. We're trying to harvest as much information as we can concerning problems, glitches, hiccups, bugs, redness, swelling and itchyness in regards to the program. If you run across a bug/problem, PLEASE email it into support. If it's a bug, it will be placed into the bug tracking database and brough to the attention of the developers.

Not sure this falls under the exact same category, but it's close. With windowblinds 5 installed i occasionally have to re-register two dll's in order for windows media player, windows update, and even some web pages to work correctly. These two dll's are vbscript.dll and jscript.dll. It seems I usually have to do this after a shutdown or reboot.

Another issue I am having is that I am unable to override the skin default toolbar icons. I have selected "always use the toolbar icon set selected below" but it has no effect when I apply changes.

I also have iconpackager, desktopx, and component tray installed, all are the latest versions.

WindowBlinds 5 BETA Troubleshooting Report:
