Michael Brown, director of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, is handing over Hurricane Katrina relief duties to a Coast Guard official and returning to Washington to oversee the national office.

And they make it sound like he said "oh, I'm tired of this guys, I think I'll take a little break"...I highly doubt that's the way things went down. I suspect it was more a questions of 'The Prez is P.O'd at the way you didn't do things....you made him look bad. You're going back to DC and you might want to start clearing off your desk'.

Haven't had a chance to check it out, but I've run across a rumor that a number of his resume entries were fabbed - not good, & he'll soon be gone, whether true or not I'd imagine.

I had heard much the same thing - that he had embellished some stuff and in reality had little to no relevant experience for the job.

MSNBC is questioning whether jobs like these should be given to people with experience, or whether people with charisma should be the chosen ones.

Personally, I'd go with experience all the way.

What's worse than his faked resume, is that the DC biggy wiggies didn't do their homework and check him out. Apparently, they just didn't care. This has got to be the worst example of cronyism out of the White Wash, I mean House in recent memory.

Brownie wasn't exactly canned yet, but he's one step closer. And, the Arkansas bar is now looking into unethical professional practice, whereby he will likely be admonished at the least, and lose his license to practice law, at the most.

Didn't any of these bushies vet the guy? I mean, come on folks. He's an incompetant fraud.

Huh?  What's the point of asking a person to provide references and information for a security clearance if they're not going to do anything with it?  How pathetic.

HAHAHAHAHAH!!!  Yeah, he was doing a heck of a job alright.  Was that said before or after Bush had made that comment about FEMA's actions being 'unacceptable'?

Yup, he is doing the dufflebag drag back to Washington, FEMA did well in Alabama and Mississippi, but became part of the problem in Louisiana, and since that was where the worst of the disaster was (and the highest profile) no successes in the other two states are going to make up the difference.

What I'm waiting for (and I don't expect that long a wait) is for him to start blaming the DoD, Bush, Congress, Bart Simpson... etc... It is now a two pronged problem. The Mayor and Governor will take the hit for the lack of preparation, botched evacuation and events leading up to the request for federal aid. The Federal hot potato is in Michael Brown's hand and he'll be looking for any hand as a target of opportunity to get rid of it.

My guess is, in the end, Prs. Bush and Joe Lieberman will take the hit for Brown getting the appointment in the first place, since he wasn't vetted very well. There won't be much more than some bad press over it (which is about what they deserve for it... along with the rest of the Senate Governmental Affairs Committee, who won't be mentioned much). Brown won't be able to rid himself of the hot potato because no one will back his fingerpointing (afterall, he's already been accused of padding his resume... a career killer in Washington) so he will become the posterchild of all that is evil with bureaucracy...

At least, that's how I see it.

See Gene, we DO agree on some things.....just not the part abut the President.   Still, three out of four's not bad, huh?!

I saw a video clip just now of Brown briefing the President at some point during the past week - Bush's body language & facial expressions were starkly "pissed off" and Brown had the look of a Soviet General who'd just been invited to Stalin's private quarters for a little chat. Bush was "not" happy with what he was hearing & seeing. Not surprised that Brown was invited back to DC not long thereafter. His will likely be the first head to roll during Bush's presidency.
