When is it not the Governments Fault?

When is it not the Governments Fault?

Just a quick follow-up here.... When do my personal choices absolve the Federal and State governments of responsibility for my plight?

Katrina is a tragedy no doubt and the Government is rushing in to help these folks as best they can. I take serious issue with folks who are bitching that it is not enouigh or that it is too slow.

If you live in the Red River Valley's flood plain and it floods I don't mind my tax dollars going to help you out. It is just neighborly. I do get a bit heated when you the flood plain resident start griping that the Government (and *me* your neighbor by proxy (we are the Government)) are not doing enough to bail you out of a situation that you put yourself into.

Live on the San Andreas fault? Guess what... there is an earthquake in your future. Don't wan't to live through and earthquake? Don't live there.

Beach house in Malibu? Guess what... Mudslide is a guarantee.

      Gulf coaster? Hurricanes.

Mid-west? Well Tornadoes, but they have a pretty tiny impact area compared to the other ones I just mentioned.

My mother and I just spoke on the phone and she had this remark :

"You could see the light-bulb come on in some of these people. They won't be moving back."

She's right of course. When you live on the effluvial delta of the Mississippi River right on the Gulf Coast it is simply a matter of time before you are wiped out by a storm. Hell even the Discovery Channel has been running some it's programs from years ago about how N.O. was doomed and how it was simply a matter of time before this happened.

Don't act surprised that this disater occurred. Don't bitch that we don't do enough about it. You live there and we will help but don't even pretend that it is *our* fault or that somehow I, your mayor, or the President are responsible for your poor choice of area.

Your decision. Own it.

First of all, may I point out that one, it wasn't quicker than tsunami aid. While some aid did arrive quickly, the majority of the aid to Indonesia and the other affected areas took days and in some cases weeks to arrive. Total time since Katrina thus far? One week.

Second, the article's not merely saying don't complain about the firefighters when your house is burning. It's more like don't build your house out of flash paper, then say that it's the firefighters are damned slow and why didn't they build a house for you out of asbestos and make you live there.

Third, yes we will render aid. In terms of money and otherwise. But nobody likes to give aid while getting cussed out, shot at, and otherwise blamed for their rescuees foolish choices.

Fourth, your grammar and spelling suck.

Fifth, if you're going to enter someone's blog to bash them, at least have the minimal comittment necessary to get an account and log in. Grow some balls for crying outloud. Anonymous = chickenshit.

Insightful once again.

1)Would not waste my time to get a account. Because I only ran into this site while surfing Blog Explosion.

2)My Grammers bad according to who? you? Your point of view sucks.

3)Everyone here to a degree is anonymous... even if I got a account anybody can give a junk e-mail address. So bite me, the only Chickenshit is pencil neck POS like you (Spc Nobody Special) wanting to talk shit behind the safety of their keyboard.

Your grammar sucks.  And you are the chickenshit.  You cannot get an account with a bogus email address, and it would only take you about 2 minutes to get an account.

Liar.

You're blaming the victims for where they live? Are you serious?

I remember when Sam Kinnison (comedian) did his whole schtick on starving Ethiopians, urging them to "move where the food" was. As if it were that simple.

You must live in a different country and have totally different values than the vast majority of people I know. Your post is insensitive AT BEST. I can only hope that when YOU need help, someone lets you know that you can't have it because you put yourself in the situation which created the requirement.

Shame on you.

No, not blaming.  Holding acountable.  Strange concept for liberals, but every day occurances for the rest of us.

Did you READ the article? Guess not.

A bogus e-mail does not have to one that is not real, but can be one where all your spam goes to, like a yahoo mail which has bulk box. One click and it's all gone.

i completely agree.

as terrible the plight is in the gulf region, i'm pretty sure it was caused by a hurricane...not a person...or a government.

wait, i take that back. it may have been caused by some godzilla monster. yup, i'm pretty sure that was the case.

i do agree. if you decide to live in a place just on the brink of some sort of natural disaster, you have to know that one day it will come.

Wow. Amen. What I've been trying to explain to those critical of everyone trying to help. I just find it flabbergasting that every move a governmental body makes requires a g**damn investigation.

I regret taking so long to respond to your latest witty repartee, but I was in New Orleans, helping out my sister. And after seeing things first hand, I've thought long and hard, studying the evidence for your point of view. Know what? You're still full of what makes the grass grow long and green.

1. So, when you're out on the street you wander into other people's conversation without bothering to introduce yourself or hang around? What's that quote from Lebowski? "Donnie, you're like a little child that's wandered randomly into the conversation." Show some commitment rather than randomly wandering around the internet insulting people.

2. Your grammar AND spelling suck. You lack the ability to express yourself with any similitude of eloquence. For example, grammar is spelled with an a, it's according to whom, and you should be after a comma, not a question mark. If English is a second language for you, you're doing well. If not, then I wish you better luck in your remedial classes.

3. My name is Ben. I live near Killeen, Tx. I'm 29, and just got out of the Army. I've got brown hair, hazel eyes and stand about 5' 9". I'm a Scorpio, I enjoy reading, metal casting, and restoring old cars, and although I don't take long walks on the beach, I am a marathon runner. Of course if you actually read people's blogs regularly instead of flipping through Blog Explosion looking for people to flame, you'd already know this and a great deal more about me and the others here. I'm cautious, but hardly anonymous.

If that's not enough, I don't feel like travelling, however you can look up my email at my site here. I'd be glad to explain my views on your intelligence, your ancestry, your relationship with animals, and your appearance in general either over the phone, or in person, although I doubt it's worth the effort. For you though? I'll always have a moment. Monkey boy.

NBS - With the way that you're able to express yourself now, I truly do believe the Army was holding you back...

Good to see you back safely. Time to cruise over to your site...

Democrats need to come to the realization that many Republicans came to long ago -- government, all government, is incompotent. Some are less incompotent than others but incompotent just the same.

A lovely cynical quote to add to my database.

Good blog, greywar. I agree.

If Bush had sent the active military Monday after the storm, there would have been less suffering and less dead

THIS is just plain baloney! Had the state and local authorities done their jobs correctly, GW wouldn't have had to sent in the troops at all.

You need to add one word. "mother's". That would account for the "monkey boy" comment. And Please save some for me! I would like to get my hands on a piece of that jerk!

You can expect natural disasters anywhere, some places have also more probabilities of suffering one, but in all cases the government must respond and help the citizens, specially when the disaster turns in as a catasthropic one.

I am honestly tired and saddened by the popular sentiment that it is New Orlean's fault for living in New Orleans. We live in an over-populating world, we're running out of places to go, and no where is 100% safe. Show some compassion. Having lived in hurricane country for half of my life, I know a thing or two. You can't just leave every time a hurricane comes your way, granted this was a big one and many of the people who could afford to leave should have likely done so (but it doesn't make them any less deserving for help and support). Why? Because half of the time, hurricanes fizzle out into nothing or rapidly change course. You can't just leave your job every time a hurricane shows up on the weather channel. If you don't understand that, then all I feel for you is pity for a lack of understanding for your own countrymen.

As for the convention center being the rapists' fault, I'm sorry, but that is utter bullshit. You leave hundreds, thousands of people who have just experienced a severe trauma, are living in awful, sanitariless conditions, and recieving very low amounts of food and water in a centralized location for an extended period of time...that's bad news. And the government should have worked to alleviate that. They should have worked to get people moved out of there faster. Period. You have to remember when you think of all the awful things that happened that these people weren't themselves. These people just lost EVERYTHING they own, most didn't know where their families were, hadn't had food or water for days...I think you'd be a little out of sorts and crazy as well.

If the government isn't supposed to help with the needy...then what kind of an advanced civilization are we if we just leave our underfed and underpriveledged to rot? Our federal government is there to protect those who can't protect themselves. Period. If federal government was all about letting individuals be themselves period, we wouldn't need a government...am I right?

What was your response to Terry Schaivo? I ask because Bush stepped over state/federal boundaries to sign a bill regarding the life of ONE person. He flew home from vacation in the middle of the night to sign this. When thousands of people were dying, Bush stayed on vacation and didn't step in to help until three days after the fact. That's where I take issue.

Don't start in on Bush on this "without" starting on both state AND local government for failure to act. You want to start on 700 school buses that did not get used? Grant you I don't think Bush did everything he could have but....exactly "what" did the mayor and governor do besides not a heck of a lot?

Are you trying to say that they lost their ability to use their brains? Sorry, but it's not the government's fault when people act stupidly. There were plenty of people not going around committing felonies, so there's absolutely NO reason to excuse those who did. "These people weren't themselves." Honestly.

If the government isn't supposed to help with the needy...then what kind of an advanced civilization are we if we just leave our underfed and underpriveledged to rot?

No one ever said the government isn't supposed to help. Where did you read that? Simply put, the government is the last resort after the citizens, cities, and states have exhausted their resources.

And don't drag Terrie Schiavo into this. For pete's sake.

Absolutely correct. Help? By all means. Blame someone else for your choice of living area and what comes naturally with it? No.
