So I sat down to watch the concert with my wife. The first act was a Dixieland Jazz group. Harry Connick Jr. and Wynton Marsalis and others. I thought, YES! Nothing tells of the spirit of New Orleans than Dixieland. It’s a part of the city and state. Perfect! This could be a good.
Tim McGraw singing country. Faith Hill singing Gospel, We’re doing fine. Neville’s unique voice. Great.
Gov. Pataki giving a donation, mentioning Louisiana’s assistance during 9/11. And interspersed, was descriptions of the storm, how it formed and came ashore (I did not know about the sudden eastern movement), descriptions of the damage, the homeless and pleas for donations. Everything was going well.
Oh, here’s Mike Meyers, bringing in the SNL crowd and the children “Look mommy, it’s Shrek!”. Who’s that with him?
Mike starts, normal plea, people need help, massive devastation etc. Same plea, everyone puts their spin on it. Then Kanye West spoke. From the first sentence, I knew there was going to be trouble. Half way through his first rant, my wife paused it asking “Is he really saying this?” Then Mike spoke again, desperately trying to keep their segment on point, hoping West would take the hint.
Nope. Too bad Mike.
One more rant, then they cut away abruptly to Tucker, who seemed somewhat surprised.
I felt sorry for Mike. Gave up his day to do something good. He looked like he would rather be in New Orleans than there.
The concert closed nice. Were those Connick’s kids? Cute.
