You're a Racist

You're a Racist

Y'all know why this is here.

I don't know where to start. You're a racist. And a coward. And an attention-whore. You're that asshole little kid who hits people just so the teacher will turn around to look at her.

I guess there is a level of comfort to be had from the fact that you admitted that your words were nothing more than ill-willed rhetoric spewed from a rambling madwoman. I can only hope you've fried your brain to such an extent that you can no longer put together rational thoughts. This isn't true, though. I know why you do it.

You do it because it's what you worked so hard to become, and you can't stand the thought of losing it. So you wake up in the morning and you start looking at news coverage of the hurricane. You look past the people helping people, black helping white and white helping black. That's not important. You look past the grief, the white people who've lost family members to raging currents and the black people who haven't seen their loved ones since their houses were ripped in two. That doesn't matter.

And then you see it. Looting. Your eyes grow wide. And even better: Black people looting. Your insides jump for joy. You found it. This is "controversial." This is "politically incorrect." This allows you to keep that persona you've worked so hard to maintain, this lets you be some distorted version of a heroic rebel, forever fighting against the shackles of a PC world. You should wear a cape.

So you say your piece, and then you sit back and wait for everyone to pat you on the back for "saying what everyone else is afraid to." We're not afraid to; we're too intelligent to. We pause for two seconds to think before we open our mouths. We don't call on the KKK to come solve our problems.

It's pathetic how you can look at tragedy and see nothing but color.

You ask questions with one answer and pretend you've given us a choice. Asking someone to justify black people looting is like me asking you to justify white school shooters or white serial killers. You can't, but not because I threw race in there. You can't because you can't justify murder or looting, regardless of who does it. You'll say that you've seen more black people looting than white people. That's fine. But until I see the certificate declaring you God, and annointing you with the power of omniscience, what you see remains what you (an angry, needy, attention-craving egotist) sees.

I've seen a lot of white CEO's screw a lot of people out of a lot of money. I've seen a lot of white serial killers kill a lot of people. Justify that. Why do white people steal? Why do white people kill? And don't try to come here telling me other races do it too...I haven't seen them, so they don't exist.

It's amazing that with all your focus on color, you completely miss the fact that everyone in Louisiana bleeds red and cries clear. Your vision's a little limited, I guess.

The very phrasing of your question suggests its racist undertones, and the racist answer that you seek. Why do black people loot? How about "Why do people loot?" Forget it, you don't care about that. You only care about why black people loot. Fine. Since you care about that, that means you think there's some sort of difference between black people and other people. And you already discounted all social, economic, and environmental explanations. So that means, you think there is some fundamental, inborn difference between races that explains why black people loot while all others sit atop the chapel, reading the Bible and praying to the Almighty to end the deluge. So there must be something about black people that makes them loot, which is bad. Consequently, black people must be inferior to all of the other non-looting races, right?

It's pathetic how you use tragedy to try to soothe your wounded racial egotism.

By the way, I noticed that you refrained from answering the very question that you posed. That's where the word coward comes in. If you're going to be politically incorrect, have the guts to put yourself out there. So far, you've just poured the blood in the water and watched the sharks feed. Jump in, coward. Tell me: Why do black people loot?

It's sad how you have to constantly piss yourself off to be happy. It's pathetic that out of all the good that's happened in New Orleans, out of all the aid and help and cooperation, the only thing you can manage to see through your blinders is the means to foster conflict. Don't you bitch at liberals every day for refusing to see the progress in Iraq, for constantly setting sights exclusively on the loss of life and the death of soldiers and the failures of the administration? What the fuck are you doing?

You're writing about how black people are the only ones looting. You're fostering an environment that would say "Fuck the black victims of the hurricane, the ones that lost their homes and families and sit side by side with the white refugees, because if they had the chance, they'd be out there looting too." You're saying "We don't need to help those black people, those damn future-looters. We should concentrate on the white people, the race that knows it's wrong to loot."

Fuck you.

You're a hypocritical, cowardly, egotistical racist.

Arguing, discussing, criticising with racists only feeds the hate fire. The only way, as hard as it is , is to ignore them.

I disagree. If they are simply ignored, it can foster the perception in others that what they say can't be so bad, as no-one appears to object to it.

Racism was a growing problem in the UK in the late 1970s and early 1980s. I was an active participant in the Anti-Nazi League at that time. Now, let's leave aside for one moment any arguments as to whether every single individual action the ANL undertook can be said with hindsight to have been the wisest or most appropriate action under the circumstances - after all, how many political pressure groups can claim that? Nevertheless, there is a great deal of evidence to support the argument that the ANL's campaign of open, unapologetic opposition to the rise of the racist right at that time did a great deal of good in raising public awareness of the issues involved.

The arguments against racism are good ones, and they deserve to be heard. Perhaps they won't convince the dyed-in-the-wool racists of the error of their ways, but while such arguments have the potential to sway those whose conviction lies in the balance, it is vital that they are heard.

I agree. My comment was directed towards blogs/bloggers. I should have been clearer. Eventually the discussion goes bad, anger is raised, and hate brews.

The perpetuation of racism should be fought at all levels, wether it be an anonymous online setting or a public multinational arena. No matter how trivial matters may seem here, we must remember that everything big once was small, and had to start somewhere.

To what point are you referring to, guy, that you think that furry canary was referring to?

Myrr said screw that (adult warning) the original did not have it.  Furry attributed it to you.  So I caught him on one!

There seems to be an attitude around here that if a racist spouts racism its OK.... Well, It's not. The shock value of using certain unaccptable words is a great ploy to gain readership, but it does not change the fact that racism is still racism.
Very good thread, thanks for posting it.

and somehow convinces others she's their loyal friend when she rips them up behind their backs (even in my limited off-JU correspondence with her)

So, are you saying that she talked about me behind my back, Myrr?  I'd be interested in knowing what was said....'cause I guarantee that what she said TO my face was waaaaaay worse than anything she said ABOUT me.

I guess because I used the 'n' word in a moment of frustration and anger you can call me a rascist too.

I'd like to have some of you say that you've never had a judgemental thought about anyone else or have looked down your noses at another person in your entire lives.  Really, I'd like to hear you say that.  Because then I'd be able to call you fucking liars.  Know why?  Because I see some of you do it here EVERY FUCKING DAY.  You're doing it now, on this thread.

Ok so before I go to far, if I voice my opionion one way or another on this thread will I be black listed? I love this article and agree with it 100% so I doubt you will need to, but after being threatend on the other string I just want to make sure I can actually have a conversation with someone on this site without getting called foul names and threatend to be black listed?

Most will engage you in either conversation or debate.  Some will not. DO not let the threats dictate what and how you respond.

This isn't about words, its about the article she wrote. I'm not calling people racist for using the word, though I will say the use of the word is inappropriate and wrong. I think I laid out my reasons for every accusation I made, and not one of them revolved around the use of that particular word.

I don't know if this comment refers to me or not, but I can tell you that I've never looked down my nose at someone simply for what color their skin is. Do I look down at looters? Yes. Not black looters, mind you, but looters in general, as I look down on murderers in general, and thieves in general, and racists in general.

I have not yet blacklisted anyone on this site, nor do I plan to, unless you become unbearingly annoying. I generally prefer to fight if someone wants to fight, so I wouldn't blacklist on here unless someone was constantly idiotic and off-topic.

And praise is always good...I'll never blacklist for praise

This is an emotional article, but it makes a good point and you have every right to be angry. Good article.
