A challenge to all Joe and Jill Users

Seeing the news, and reading articles and threads about the devestation in Mississippi and New Orleans and the surrounding areas should remind us all that besides taking time to blog here at Joe User, and taking time to argue over political issues, current events and other things, there are much bigger needs in the world, including in our back yard.

Regardless of some blogging that I may do later today (which some people may find a bit hostile, while others may cheer) on the topic, there is a great need right now for relief efforts in the areas that were impacted by Katrina.

Right now, the biggest need is money. Not dry goods, not clothing, not canned goods, etc. Just money. Money to help pay for shelter for people who have lost their homes. Money to help buy food for relief workers, and for a host of other very good reasons.

I ask everyone that visits Joe User today and thinks about, or does leave a reply or post a new article to consider giving a $1.00 to the relief efforts for the article you post, or a $1.00 for the priviledge of being able to post a reply or add a comment to someone else's article.

Sure, it's great that Joe User is free for us to use. It leaves money in our pockets for other things, and this is a time when other things should have more importance.

Scrape up some pennies if you can, and donate what you can afford to. If you have already, then bless you. You know you've done a good thing, and even if no one else says thanks, you should feel great about it and know it was appreciated.

If you haven't given, but can afford to, then please do.

And if you can't afford to give, then please just keep the good people from these hard hit areas in your thoughts. If you can donate time at a local area to relief causes, then perhaps consider that, but again, if you can't afford to give, then please don't feel badly.

I continue to hope for the best for all of the people that have been impacted by this storm. Even as we bitch and moan about gasoline prices that are skyrocketing, we should be thankful that we still have our vehicles, that they still run and are able to consume the gasoline, no matter how expensive, and are still able to transport us around in relative comfort.
