California Idiots at it again

Today French Fries, tomorrow the Air we Breath

http://www.cnn.com/2005/LAW/08/27/french.fry.lawsuit.reut/index.html

In what has got to be one of the stupidest and lamest lawsuits ever filed, the California AG is filing suit against fast food companies and snack companies claiming that they are violating a 1986 law that requires companies to warn about Cancer causing agents in Food.

The Problem is, the 'suspected' cancer agent, Acrylamide, has not been proven to cause cancer of any type in humans, nor is it an additive to any food product!  It is a by product of cooking potatoes at high temperatures!  In other words, Mother nature put the stupid thing in there!

The few studies done are split on whether it is even a cancer causing agent in any animals, and none have been shown to cause cancer in Humans.  The ones that have been shown to cause cancer would require a normal person to eat there weight in french fries for years to get even close to the doses give to the laboratory animals!

But in a case of total disregard for common sense, and a total slavish abeyance of stupidity, the California AG has decided that Mickey D's and BurrGurrr King are trying to poison us by letting us eat French Fries.  I got news for that doofus in California.  If some one is going to eat that many fries and chips, they are going to die from a lot of other things long before they kick the bucket on an imaginary cancer!

I wonder when someone is going to tell these Einsteins of stupidity that 70+ or - years of breathing nitrogen and oxygen is also fatal.

Come to think of it, it was a politician or bureaucrat in California that was trying to ban Dihydro Monoxide as well.

Of course the California AG would never seek to ban Oxygen for it's toxic effects on humans... They just love Free Radicals! ;~D

I don't necessarily disagree with your point, Dr. Guy, but when did Mother Nature start cooking potatoes at high temperatures?

When Lightning struck the potato patch.

I forgot about the Caldera!  So Eat Fries, the Caldera is going to wipe us out before the potatoes do!

Today French Fries, tomorrow the Air we Breath

To be fair, they've already been attacking the air we breathe for years. Most of the laws concerning industrial pollution seem to get their origins there, same with vehicle emissions (of course maybe someone should just tell them that having thirty million people living and driving in one metropolitan area is going to destroy the air regardless,) and the psychopathic persecution that has swept the nation against cigarette smokers.

Don't get me wrong, I don't smoke, and don't like when other people smoke, but come on, not inside, not outside, not in your car, and cigarette manufacterers can jump up and down waving signs in your face telling you that you're giving yourself cancer, and you can still pretend you're completely innocent and sue for twenty million? I'd love to see them try this with alcohol.

They have tried it with alcohol, so far unsucessfully.  But even breathing fresh mountain air is, in itself, hazardous as it has mold spores and pollen that can do as much damage.  We cannot all be bubble boys.

I guess they don't have anything better to do Doc. It's a slow week for news in California I guess.

But it is a waste of taxpayer money, and one that California cannot afford.

The scariest part is not the use of a black box to monitor certain drivers (although that is most definitely frightening). What's truly frightening is the mandatory therapy. This is especially pertinent for what the article calls "group therapy," wherein an individual (a drug user, say, who also robs people's houses while they're at work) is required by a court order to associate with *other criminal drug users* -- the very criminal class from which we would hope he'd soon rehabilitate!

Worse than this is the fact that most of the "therapeutic" methods used in these situations are not rightly called "therapy" at all. They are not based in medicine or psychology, but are best described as the dogma of an ultra-loyalistic religious sect.

Please check out the works (web sites) of any of the many who have challenged the Twelve Step movement (Alcoholics Anonymous and its spinoffs). Some I might mention (that will show up on any search) would be Stanton Peele, SMART Recovery, Rational Recovery, and Recovery Watch (a small online library). I spent eleven years taking on the Twelve Step movement, but had to quit (for my own health and peace-of-mind) after receiving one too many death threats from "concerned" Twelve Steppers. These came weekly, at least, but that last one just got to me.

Take care!

Cliff, I think you clicked on the wrong comments button.  This article is about the Ca AG filing a lawsuit against fast food companies.  You want the comments button below the article you are replying to (in this case I assume since you seem to be commenting on TerpFans' Black box article).

IN your defense, I did not say all Californians are idiots (My wife would kill me if I had anyway).  Only that the california idiots are at it again.
