Mr. Robertson

With Apologies to Paul Simon

And nuts to you, Mr. Robertson,
You think Jesus loves you more than we could know. No, no, no.
Up yours please, Mr. Robertson,
Heaven holds no place for those who say pray for pay. Hey, hey, hey.

We'd like to know what it is that makes you think the way you do.
We'd like to help you learn to be more sane.
Look around you, all you see are people just like you.
Stroll around the town until you see the pain.

And nuts to you, Mr. Robertson,
You think Jesus loves you more than we could know. No, no, no.
Up yours please, Mr. Robertson,
Heaven holds no place for those who say pray for pay. Hey, hey, hey

Hiding in a mansion where no one ever goes,
Put it on TV with your cameras.
It's a little secret, just the Robertson's affair,
Most of all, you've got to hide it from the law.

What did you do, Mr. Robertson?
You think Jesus loves you more than we could know. No, no, no.
Up yours please, Mr. Robertson,
Heaven holds no place for those who say pray for pay. Hey, hey, hey.

Sitting in your office on a Sunday afternoon,
Going to the candidate's debate.
Laugh about it, lie about it when your head's in the noose.
Any way you look at it you lose.

Where have you gone, Federal Communications Committee,
A nation turns its hopeful eyes to you.
What's that you say, Federal Communications Committee,
You won't lift a finger to fine a man of God.

What about him? Simon wrote the song by himself.

I have the sheet music. It says "Words and Music by Paul Simon."

I made a couple of changes.

Yea, but Art inspired him.  I liked them better as a duo.

I was hoping for opinions on whether or not the FCC will fine him.

No.  But I can be wrong.

Why not, because he's a preacher?

Why not, because he's a preacher?

No, because he is a fruit loop and no one (seriously) listens to him.

Are you calling for government censorship?

I love the changes you made. Great. Very clever. Naa, no one's gonna hold him accountable, and certainly not the FCC. They won't because he is a darling among the Christian righties. I've yet to hear any one of them lambast him for his remarks. They just make excuses. But, then again, I haven't listened to much of anything lately. Just this past wednesday, I sprained the shit outta my ankle, and I'm stoned on vicodins.

Aren't the sort of things he said against FCC regulations?

Are you calling for government censorship?

I just want fairness. I want the same rules applied to him that have been applied to Howard Stern and others who have violated FCC regulations.

Some people have been calling for the FCC to investigate. We'll see.

I'm not familiar with the FCC rules. Could you show me where what he said violated them?

I'm not sure. I think it's against their rules to say something on the air that is considered hate speech, but from what I read here, Link it seems that it depends on if the speech is likely to cause violence.

speech becomes illegal advocacy when “directed to inciting or producing imminent lawless action and is likely to incite or produce such action.

Which I guess is what Dr. Guy is saying.

I get some things right every once in awhile.

Pfft. Sorry if this doesn't ring true to me. Maybe if you compared Robertson's statement to something that has incurred a fine, but I think the reason you don't is because it doesn't jive. Most on both sides think all this "hate speech" stuff is garbage.

There's a difference between saying what you think should happen and telling people to directly to do it. If he had looked into the camera and directed his followers to kill Chavez, maybe I can see that. If you are going to fine every 'personality' that said publicly the government should kill some antagonistic foreign leader, you'll have a long list dating back decades before this statement.

Baker, the last verse was mostly inspired by the fact that some people want the FCC to investigate. Now I see they might not have a case.

I've been thinking about this and one other aspect of it bothers me. Whatever one's personal opinion of the state of Robertson's brain, he is a private individual with no formal or official connection to the government and is free to stick his foot in his mouth ad lib (easy trick for him, actually).

We've had Senators and Democratic Party officials say far worse things about our own President without a peep of outrage from the MSM, but Robertson's comment is met with all manner of righteous indignation & wall-to-wall news coverage for a week, not to mention demands from foreign governments that the White House (which had nothing to do with it) publicly rebuke Robertson and apologize on his behalf. Very interesting set of standards the MSM live by.

To keep the record straight, I stand by my previous statements - Robertson's comment was a sign of 1) stupidity, 2) crass malice wholly anathema to a true Christian, or 3) evolving senility. But the MSM have used his comments to convict the Republican Party on grounds of guilt by association only.

Daiwa

Also, you might check over at DU and other places where people call for the assassination of Bush all the time. If we are going to apply such to Robertson, we could clean house over there.

I find DU disturbing, so don't hang around there much, Baker. Don't doubt you.
