Ruh!? What did they say?

Have you ever been listening to music, just absent mindedly. While doing some thing else; dishes, or something else. And a song comes on, a rap one, and they start singing about their thing, and you try really hard to listen to them, but you don't understand what they are saying. Thats what i go through at times. Especially when i am watching my nieces; as the eldest likes to listen to rap. :( When i hear some of the things they say (what i can hear) i just shake my head, wondering why children (my niece is 11) so young are alowed to listen to the rap that talks about murder, sex, etc... *shakes head* It makes me wonder.

Why allow it? I realize that you, as an uncle, might not have control over what they do when they're not with you - that's up to their parents... but in your own home, you can certainly say what is acceptable and what's not. And some things simply aren't.

If she doesn't listen to you, you don't need to be watching her. Her safety is dependent on your authority.

--Well, i have two choices, tell my sister i can't watch them, and watch her spend anywhere from 600-800$ a month for babysitting at the YMCA. So... :S If i continue to i save my sister money that could be used catch up on bills,etc...

You can tell your sister, their mother, that they're not minding you and that things have to change. Until they listen to you and do as you say, you're an ineffective sitter/childminder.

I know that if I felt anyone who was watching my kids was ineffective I'd be VERY uncomfortable leaving them.

I don't know that with all of your medical problems you have any business watching anyone but yourself anyway....

Everyone is dead on with this. If she won't listen, either make her listen (good swift kick in the butt) or don't watch her! Your not helping you sister.

Well, she and I. (Eldest niece) Had a bit of a talk, and i *think* things are for the time being, smoothed out. I have been talking with my sister about it. She says that she will talk with them. She also asked for me to write down everthing they do wrong, and give her the list. She said that she would deal with them with those things.

And you're responsible for your sister...why?You obviously arent capable of keeping them safe, so you do her no favor by saving her this money. They're her kids, her responsibility


--Not responsible per say. I feel i owe her that. Because when i was first born, with my mom working 2-3 jobs depending on how well off we were, she was a second mom for me, at the age of 10. So i feel that i am doing what i can. At the moment she's making 7.50-8.00$ and hour. (I think; i'll have to ask her) So she isn't making all that much.

--Well #1; I don't punish with spanking or hitting, no use of physical means(spanking, belt, etc...). Its a personal issue that takes that option out. #2; True enough.

--How so, spank them? Hell no. I have done what i can, within my powers. I'll tell you one thing, it scares me to death seeing them walk off out of the house and down the street. Thankfully my sis has taken care of that. I think things will be better, i only have four more days with them. Then they both go back to school; i will be watching the eldest after school, until about 5pm.
