It seems a group of cheerleaders are in the news for helping the police solve a hit and run. Link

I just wanted to hip everyone to this amazing story of 16 girls collectively remembering 8 alphanumeric characters in sequence. Such a stunning accomplishment by today's standards, or rather "Today's" standards since it warranted the captain of the Cheerleader Squad getting airtime on the long running American morning show for it.

Who says our kids are getting dumber? Not Katie Couric!

It is sad when something like this is featured on the news shows!  I would have been embarrassed to have my name and or face associated with this clap trap!

Oh, and the reason that Perky Katie does not think today's kids are stupid?  They are smarter than her!

Just goes to show how our standards have fallen a long way. Used to be we expected high school graduates to know geometry, trig, algebra and maybe a little bit of calculus... Now we're just happy if they can remember an alpha-numeric sequence no longer than 8 or so letters/numbers.

I had my license plate memorized about 10 seconds after they handed it to me at the DMV. Will CNN do a story on me for being a genius?

You guys have always got to find something to pick apart.
Now you're picking on High School girls that used a manner that was familar to them to help catch a hit and run prick? At least wait until they graduate before you rip on someone's intelligence.

Based on this I think you should definitely have a case for equal time...provided you can do the splits.

I'm not picking on the girls. I'm picking on the people that find their action to be an accomplishment worthy of television coverage. I wonder what the interview was like.

Katie So tell us about what happened

Cheerleader O-K! Well our cheerleader coach got the license plate number of a guy that hit a nearby car and drove off, then she told it to us to remember.

Katie, looking absolutely fascinated Amazing. What in the world did you do next?

Cheerleader O-K! Well, we each took a letter, and then got ourselves in a line in the order that the letters and numbers were, and we had one girl whose job it was to remember which end of the line was the beginning of license plate.

Katie looking off stage to the left at a producer or someone Are they geniuses or what?

Katie, shaking her head, looks back at cheerleader in awe Then what happened?

Cheerleader O-K! Well, we said the license plate number over and over until the police arrived.
