The Summer of 1992-for Dharma's Daughter

This article is for Shay, because like her, my "Auntie" decided to pay me my first visit during the summer.

It was late July and my cousin and I decided to ride our bikes to Wendy's for a bite to eat. We ordered the usual: junior bacon cheeseburgers and biggie fries. On the bike ride home I felt incredibly queezy, and wanted to blame it on the mountain of greese I just consumed, but it just didn't feel like that was the cause of this. Then I noticed it....

I had gotten my period for the first time.

Overwhelming emotions consumed me. Was I supposed to be excited? Was I supposed to be sad? I just couldn't pinpoint the emotion. How could I tell my mom?

By the time mom got off work, I got the nerve and just told her. She was overly excited. She invited my grandma over and decided to bake a cake to celebrate my "entrance to womanhood."

This is the moment I realized that getting my period would just plain out suck for the rest of my life (even though now I understand that eventually childbirth will be an amazing thing)....

I remember that time frame VERY well. We had just moved into the house we still live in today. I guess this pales in comparison! I'm afraid I didn''t get my period then at all!

Aww, Alison! She's tickled that you wrote this!

Funnily enough she was born mid-October of '92....

lol--how ironic! I'm glad she got a kick out of this. When you posted the article about it, I instantly felt like I was 12 again...hehe
