In the UK....it's about time!

The UK’s Prime Minister, Tony Blair, has announced new rules for foreigners in his country. In short, foreigners who live in the UK and belong to any extremist groups, who condone or sponsor violence against the country and its’ people, even breathe hatred, will be deported!

They’re also going to keep a list of websites, book shops, and places that would incite violence in the country and do something about them.

The most important thing (IMOO) he said as reported in this article (which I will link below) is, “They come here and they play by our rules and our way of life, if they don’t, they are going to have to go.”

This is definitely as it should be! Why mince words, why continue to allow these extremists amongst a country’s populace to spew hate, and strife and violence?! If they hate everyone so much, why in the hell are they there in the first place? (This one is a rhetorical question, no need to respond to it!) So I definitely agree with this.

I haven’t heard or seen any news report that the US is doing the same thing? If so, great! These are extreme times and that means taking extreme measures for the protection of our countries and people!

While I understand the sentiment as you are expressing it, the following questions occurred to me as soon as I read about the introduction of these rules. What about the British-bred extremists? Or what about extremists living in other countries, for example, KKK or Nazi supporters living in the United States? Where do we ship them?

I find this worrying as there is nothing stopping administrations from booting innocent people out of their chosen homeland because they might fit a profile or express some sentiment not necessarily in keeping with the 'party' line. Doesn't anyone remember Orwell's '1984'?

It is not the ONLY solution, but it is a good start.  We will always have homegrown ones, and that is what jails are for.

Very good questions Maso. As we have found out some of the recent bombers were british born. I guess this is something that hopefully the prime minister has looked into. And I'm assuming in a case like that the person would be put in federal prison. Where else would he go? Unless of course being of some other descent while being British born they might decide to send them to their parents homeland.

That has actually happened to criminals who have committed crimes and have hit the "three strikes and you're out" rule that is practised by most states in our country. Wherein a criminal who have committed one too many crimes and have been convicted is deported to the country they came from. I've heard that some of those criminals weren't even born in the countries they were deported to or have been away since childhood and knows no one in that country anymore.

I certainly don't agree with profiling but in a case like this it most definately will become necessary to do. And I do certainly hope it doesn't come down to the powers that be thinking that anyone who doesn't agree with them is against them and therefore deserves to be kicked out. Only those who are advocating violence and the act of terrorism in the country.

As Doc said, it's not the only solution but it is definately a good start to solving the problem.

This has been a long time coming. Muslim immigrants have been flooding into the UK for as long as I can remember, bringing their extended families with them. It wouldn't be so bad if they were working and supporting themselves, but a lot of them live in council houses (government rent-controlled property) and claim unemployment, family and disability benefits (welfare)...then they have the nerve to preach hatred against the hand that feeds them! I'm glad that they're being deported, this will save the UK millions in benefits - not to mention freeing up housing fro deserving British born couples.

He's giving foreign instigators a choice: either become British citizens, and enjoy all the rights and responsibilities of British citizens, or be a foreign visitor, and stay on your best behavior. But no more coming to Britain as a foreign visitor, and inciting your neighbors--foreign and citizen alike--to violence against the British government and people.

If you're a citizen, we'll deal with you as a citizen. If you're not--either shut up or leave.

There's plenty of nations in the world to choose from. Don't think that you can enjoy all the benefits of ours, if you're just going to use them to tear our society down. Go find some other country to attack.

Exactly! Too many times people do that, go to live in a country and become instigators. They don't adapt but choose to live separately and apart instead of trying to learn the language and living a fulfilled life as that countries citizen. I'm not saying to forget their heritage or culture, but for God's sake become a part of where you are and show you care by adapting.

Actually, based upon Dharma's previous response, they would be stupid not to COME to Britian.  3 hots and a flop!  I guess England is just TOO nice.  maybe they should get tougher on who gets goverment housing and assistance.

I believe if they did, there wouldn't be that many people from other countries wanting to live there. There social benefits are really good and a lot of people know this.
