Planets Revolting

This must be some sort of sick joke.
I played a game for 3 hours and finally gave up.

I must of have at least eight planets and these planets were happy moral at 45 - 50 % and they defected.

Little warning a stupid box pops up I check and see if the planet, it is happy, it is but it still defects.

You would think at least one Alien planet would defect but no that does not happen.

A planet should not revolt if 40% of its population is happy.

Even with a strictly democratic vote, which does not happen the North States for example would not let the South go without a fight. There are 5 alien populations.

Out of the 60% which are not happy maybe 30% are somehere on the border. The 30% truely not happy would not all vote to join one alien civilization.

To force a revolt the morality should be very low say 5 to 10%.

Even it the moral is low enough for revolt more warning should be given. In the OS/2 game you had plenty of warning and to revolt the moral had to be much lowwer than 40%. In the OS/2 game when a planet revolt it becomes a rebel world up for grab by anybody. Which is the way it should be. I am on a human colony world mad at Earth I am really going to trust and Alien Civilization.

If you have star systems in sectors dominated by other civilizations than they may defect for cultural reasons.

MORALE is taken into account.

This is still being tweaked and we can make sure you get at least one warning that the people are becoming entranced with another civilization.

But they're not leaving you because they think you suck, they leave you because they want to be part of another civilization.

BTW, there are revolutions and defections. They aren't the same.

Revolutions take place due to your civilization being very unhappy and those star systems become independent. You can then apply your US civil war analogy on those.

Defections are where a foreign civilization becomes so culturally powerful that the people defect to join it.

Please read the news item on beta 3 because this is gone into some detail.

I've both had alien planets defect to me (it helped that in the systems in the immediate vicinity I had 3-4 settled planets in each), and been warned about a planet in the middle of alien territory about to defect and prevented them (again, it helped that the surrounding culture was losing a war). Of course, in two games in a row I had screwed up badly enough for my people to revolt. That's not all bad though--you get money!

That said, it does seem to be a lot easier to let morale run out of control--the minute I try to redirect money to catch up militarily, morale seems to go in the dumpster (and I start losing elections). It may need balancing, it may just need a steadier hand at the helm than previously.

One of hte things I think we may need to do is have it track what Morale was the turn before and make sure it can't change TOO quickly one way or the other in a given turn.

Still seems weird to me. I can not imagine any human colony joining an Alien Civilization. They are ALIEN not human.

I like very much the idea of cultural defection, but it is rather easy know to culturally conquer everyone. Especially since you must wipe out every single sentient being on a planet to conquer it. After such an atrocity, I doubt people of alien civilisation would get along so well, even in exchange for coke and chewing-gum.

Best thing happened to me was:
Alien race conquered my homesystem sol. In the same sector I had my last system with just one colony on it.
And what happened 5 turns later... they defected to the alien race, which raged my sol system.

a) never ever would I defect to a race, who killed all people of the home world system. (If U attack with an transporter, U eradicate all enemy beings there, leaving just one race left... the winners)
b) never ever would I as fled goverment, left on my last system, let that system defect... before that happens, I would start the nova bomb.

(a) Yes, there is a slight problem with this aspect. You migth notice for example that you can bargain a colony ship full of alien and they will merrily serve you thereafter... The ONLY time were pacific coexistence seems to be impossible is during planetary conquest, because there is no difference between citizens and troopers. We must suppose that THIS is the problem, and not the whole cultural thing that I suppose we all enjoy in principles.

(b) Err, you mean that a government should eradicate his own people to protect them from being defeated militarily ? It's your turn to be too extreme I think LOL

No No.

(b) just says... if its my last system, I've got, its not feasable that this system defects to the enemy...
And before it defects, I would rather destroy it, since its my last homeplanet, I've got.
