My daughter's Auntie has paid her a visit

My 12 year old daughter's Auntie paid her a visit for the first time this morning. 

Her arrival caused a few tears and prompted a few phone calls to other members of the family who Auntie visits (or visited) on a regular basis.

I kicked Auntie out a few years ago; told her she was staying far too long and that she was no longer welcome.  I know what a pain Auntie can be.

On the one hand I'm sad because I wish there was some other way for my child.  On the other hand, I'm celebrating her transition into womanhood.

I'm not quite sure what to feel or think....

Not much you can do, Karen, other than explain whats going on, offer supplies, and put a moat around the house.


We had 'The Talk' a couple of years ago. I never had 'The Talk' with my mum, and I wanted Shea to be aware and ready for this. She's had supplies for about 6 months, and she know what to do with them.....the chocolate is an excellent idea, though! The hot toddy I'm going to save until she's PMS-ing. Thank you so much for you help, S.....it really helps to have another chikka to get advice from.

I do have a question though....when is it ok to have her start using tampons? She wants to swim and she can't....

Keep a hot pad around too. We forget how bad cramps feel to the uninitiated. At least she has a savvy mom who prepared her!

Gotcha.  I don't have periods anymore, so I forget just what it's like...

I think so too.  

 

Get her the "slender regulars" or "jr" size, and just make sure she knows that if she can feel it after shes inserted it, she hasnt inserted it deeply enough, to remove it and try again.

I was embarassed to tell my mom that I'd gotten mine. I also got violently ill the first time I got my period...so was it hormones? Was it the flu intermingled with the hormones? I don't know. It was weird though.

It depends on how comfortable she is with the tampons...to tell you the truth, I couldn't use them until after I had my girly surgery. I don't know if it was user error or the surgery stretched me out a bit. I still have to use the small ones...I like the ones without the applicator I guess, they're small and painless for the holy virgin Marcie.

Congrats to Shea on becoming a gorgeous young lady!

And while your at it Karen...you might want to consider buying up stocks of shotgun ammo. Rock salt would be best. It does no lasting "physical" harm while making sure your point is driven home! Just really glad that I had boys and no girls. I'd be in prison by now for murder.

Oh man, I remember when I first got mine. I was so disturbed because my Mom baked a cake...lol....She was excited, however, I was not!
