Need help with Bootskins

Seting up Bootskin Graphics

Hello,

I am having problems converting bootskin graphics to 16-colors.

I have successfully created a couple bootskins that show up in Stardocks Bootskin program, I know how to adjust the progress bar X and Y coordinates to position it where I want it.

The first bootskin graphic I created was created in Adobe Photoshop CS2 from an existing .jpg I have on my computer,
I tried converting it but it doesn’t display properly when the computer reboots, although I can see it as the computer reboots.

The second was created with Stardocks SkinStudio, bootskin utility with the same display issues.

When I load either of the two bootskins I created, and then reboot my computer to test if they work, the images load, they look like photograph negatives taken with a camera. Its like all of the dark parts of the image shows up and a shade of grayscale or white. And the progress bar cannot be seen.

When I used skinstudio to create my 16-color graphic, I thought there was no other color correction needed, I’m think I might be wrong about that.

I don’t know what else to do to them to make them show up correctly.

If any one knows how to convert .jpg images into a 16-color graphic using Corel PhotoPaint10 it would be very helpful. I do have Adobe Photoshop CS2 as well; I am just better at using Corel products.

Thanks

The usual cause of the color looking bad when used is progress bar colors not being from the 16 color palette of the screen image.

Thank you kona0197,

the instructions were great, the Photo Paint Pro, program converted jpeg’s to 16-bit effortlessly.

Creating the progress bar in the converted boot skin image and then cropping it into a new window was a very good technique.

If you are the writer of the boot skin tutorial, awesome job, and I thank you for leading me to the right source.
