Is it me? Or does IconPackager screw things up royally.....

Help!

Helo everybody, I was just trying IconPackager. I used it for a while and then decided to uninstall it. Well, I had problems, because the skin I applied in IconPackager was still applied (after reboot to). So I reinstalled IconPackager and told it to restor my normal Windows Icons. It did, but apparently not all of them. Some apps Icons were screwed up. I fixxed this by reinstalling the app that they used. However, some icons like for the Windows DLL files, werent displaying. I got the icon Windows displays if it doesnt know what filetype it is or if there is no program installed to use it. I tried reinstalling Windows. I mean, I didnt format. I just repaired the installation. Well, that didnt work. I tried deleteing shell32.dll and reinstalling. That didnt work. I messed around with IconPackager, told it to remove the Icon cache or something, that didnt work. I also told it to fix all my icons that werent displaying properly. You guessed it! That didnt work either. I looked at the icons in my shell32.dll. Some apparently were missing. (The DLL one wasnt though). My next option is to take the shell32.dll from another computer in my house and replace it with the one in my windows folder. I think IconPackager sucks if it screws up my icons. Can anyone help me with my problem? Thanks.

If you uninstalled IconPackager with an icon pack still applied, this is where your problem was created.

You might check to see if the value is correct in the icofile key:

Start > Run > regedit > hit Enter > expand HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT > scroll down list to "icofile" and expand it > highlight "DefaultIcon" folder > read information in right-side pane.

Information should be:

Name = (Default)
Type = REG_SZ
Data = %1

If the data is other than %1, right click the (default) listing in right-side pane > select Modify > type %1 > click OK.

If you see a key named IconHandler under (inside) the "icofile" key, another program has written the IconHandler key which may be creating an issue.

Failing these, the next step would be System Restore.

I hope this helps.
