All this time...

When I was a teenager, I was bigger than average 'up top'. Everyone else was wearing A and B cups, and I was in a C.  As I got older and I stopped growing, I leveled out.  I'm not huge, but I don't have bee stings either.

When I was at my skinniest, I was still a large B/small C.  At my heaviest, I was a DD, and when I was nursing I was overfilling a DD cup but never bothered to get a bigger bra so I don't know exactly how big I was...but I'll hazard a guess and say E.

For the past few years I've been about the same size.  I've always bought a 36 C bra, and whilst I had a few problems with them (falling out of the cups, the back riding up etc etc) I thought that it was just the style of bra that I was wearing.  It never occured to me that I was wearing the wrong size.

Until yesterday.  I was reading an article in 'O' magazine that said that most women are wearing the wrong size bra.  Chicks think that they're a 36 B when really they're a 34 C, things like that.

So, this morning I went off shopping (by myself, kids and bra shopping isn't a good combination).  I got measured, and....

I've been wearing the wrong size bra.  All this time I've been thinking that I'm a 36C, when I'm really a full 34 D - in some styles and brands a DD fits better.

I'm surprised.  Shocked, actually.  I thought that maybe I had the band size wrong, but I never imagined that I'd got the cup size wrong as well.  Wow.   All this time I was squashing my girls into a C that was too small for them, when I should have been giving them the comfort of a bigger cup and smaller band!  One's bigger than the other (I had a sizeable lump removed), but they're still a full D.

Hehehe.....my husband's going to LOVE this.......

I was doing the same exact thing, then a few years ago I worked for Victoria's Secret. When they told me I was a D, I was in shock...haha. Welcome to the big girls club! hehe

Me too!  I knew I was larger than average because I've been having a hell of a time finding a bikini top that will....errmm...corral them.  I wear a size 8 or 9 bottom, but the little triangles of fabric that make up the top part just don't do the job.  I'm busting out at the front and at the sides of that size so I end up getting a size 11 or 12 top...but then it's too big around the ribs and back.  Hmph...do they not make bikinis for big girls?

A,B,C,D etc has nothing to do with the size of your breasts, but the difference between them and your ribcage/back measurement.

I know that now.  I thought it odd that I was a D plus because I don't LOOK like a D. D's to me are big Pammy Anderson looking tits, and mine don't look like that at all.

Glad you finally figured it out! (pun intended, heehehe.

Me too!  I have to say that wearing a bra that fits properly is verrryyy comfortable......I got one that has the squishy gel straps and it's soooo nice!

I should be ashamed that the first thing I thought of when I saw that pic was "For gods' sake, woman, there should be an ' in guys' ".

I am terrible at this "man" thing.

Michael's mom and I were discussing that article the other day!!

We've made it our new job to start a nation-wide bra makeover program because we're tired of seeing women out and about who are clearly wearing the wrong bras!! People don't realize what a big difference it can make!!

Oh yeah, and welcome to the club! 36 D here!! Woohoo!!

Ha, this inspired me to measure, and I now know why my bras are so uncomfortable!

I've been wearing a 38DD, and what I'm supposed to be wearing (according to a sizing chart I found online) is a 36DDD. In some ways I feel better because I know that I can get a better fit...but then again, 36DDD is going to be even more difficult to find, particularly in any styles that are appealing.

Congrats on your newfound "D cup" status, and thanks for helping me figure out why I can't wait to get my bra off at the end of the day, hehe.

W00t! So I'm not the only one who's been wearing the wrong sized bra!

I have noticed that the bigger they get, the less pretty the styles are. Even in a 34D there's a noticeable lack of lace and frills...instead we have the lingerie equivalent of double slingshots.

equivalent of double slingshots.

They're called "over the shoulder boulder holders" or double barreled sling shots.

I have yet to come across a truly comfortable bra, and I had just assumed that that was the way it was supposed to be. I'm excited about trying a new size...I'm hoping that it won't feel quite so restricting.

This is definitely true. The larger the size (numbers and/or letters), the more difficult it is to find any variety or anything beyond white or beige no-frills bras. It's frustrating.

I like the matching panty and bra sets, but that's next to impossible to find. It also makes finding good fitting lingerie difficult because while the body may fit, there's virtually no support in the bust, and things are definitely not contained (we're talking nipples and everything above completely uncovered). Drives me crazy.

Sure, here it is. I looked at a few, but this one was the least complicated. It shows how to measure correctly and then you find your ribcage measurement (which will give you your band size), follow it down the chart until you find your bust measurement, and then scan over to the left, and you'll find your cup size.

Hope it helps.
