A new study has found that video gamers' eyes tend to react slightly faster than non-gamers. Lead experimenter Dr. Alan Castel's experiment tested college-aged hardcore gamers, novices and non-gamers to a "inhibition of return" challenge. An example of this test is looking for your keys, you look at were you thought you left them, then around the area and then generally back to your initial spot. Gamers of either type were faster to find their target objects than the non-gaming type.
But gamers didn't use any special technique or touch some unused part of the brain but instead just executed the same search at faster speeds. The speed increase was in the 100 millisecond range, not life altering you would think. Dr. Castel believes that this reaction increase to ones surroundings could possibly be the difference to averting a car accident. As a side note this super human power is no easy thing to master. Participants in the study played games for about 2 hours a day, 6 days a week, something that few people do.
