I remember hearing somewhere while I was in the service that we had like 2000+ soldiers die in 1985 (one of the years I was in). It was a big deal because it was the most in a number of years. Well I did some checking and guess what? In 1985 alone we lost 2,252 soldiers. In just that year alone.
In Operation Iraq Freedom we have lost 1270 soldiers to hostile action from March 19th, 2003 through June 4th, 2005. Including non-hostile action (accidents, illness and other causes) add 395 for a total of 1665. Still 1665 to many, but I thought it interesting the numbers were being covered so much, we lost many more in one year in peace time than we have in 2 years and 3 months of The War on Terror.
Wonder who is blowing these numbers out of proportion. And making the American people believe we are losing so many men and women more than usual.
